Roma store sale 1 Oct 2019: Increased Western Qld numbers come forward

Cattle were mostly drawn from the local supply area with increased numbers also from Western Queensland.

A fair buyer panel was present and operating selectively. Steers dominated the yarding and prices were reflective of the quality variations.

Medium weight yearling steers under 330kg to feed or background fell by 3c to 24c/kg. Medium weight yearling steers under 400kg to feed fell by 8c to 16c while the small number of heavy weight yearling steers to feed rose by 15c/kg.

Light weight yearling heifers under 280kg to restockers fell by 8c to 11c/kg. Medium weight yearling heifers under 400kg rose by 2c to 17c/kg. Medium weight 2 score cows fell by 7c, while medium weight 3 score cows fell by 3c/kg. Heavy weight 3 score cows saw no change from the previous week.

The largest number of heavy weight bulls continued to improve up by 14c/kg.

Light weight yearling steers under 280kg to restockers sold to 290.2c to average 274c/kg. Medium weight yearling steers under 330kg to feed or background sold to 282.2c to average 274c/kg. Medium weight yearling steers under 400kg to feed sold to 296.2c to average 275c while the heavy weight yearling steers over 400kg to feed made to a top of 312.2c to average 305c/kg.

The largest sample of light weight yearling heifers sold to 244.2c to average 219c/kg. Medium weight yearling heifers under 330kg to background or feed made to 264.2c to average 238c/kg. Medium weight heifers under 400kg to feed sold to 275c to average 249c/kg. Heavy weight yearling heifers over 400kg to feed sold to 277.2c to average 272c/kg.

The limited number of grown steers yarded sold to a top of 270.2c to average 270c/kg.

The best of the grown heifers sold to 241.2c to 222c/kg.

Medium weight 3 score cows sold to 229.2c to average 214c while the medium weight 4 score cows sold to 241.2c to average 236c/kg. Heavy weight 3 score cows also sold to 229.2c to average 218c while the heavy weight 4 score cows sold to 243.2c to average 236c/kg.

The best of the heavy weight bulls sold to 280.2c to average 250c/kg.

Weaner steers under 220kg topped at 284c/kg and averaged 247c/kg, weaner steers in the 220-280kg range reached 294c/kg and averaged 257c/kg.

Steers in the 280- 350kg range reached 294c/kg and averaged 267c/kg, and steers in the 350-400kg range reached 296c/kg and averaged 254c/kg.

Feeder steers in the 400-550kg range topping at 312c/kg and averaging 286c/kg.

M & D Green, Always Greener, Roma sold Angus steers to 312c/kg, reaching a top of $1,320 to average $1,320.

Glenrowan Grazing Co, Glenrowan, Morven sold Braford steers to 299c/kg, reaching a top of $1,236 to average $1,236.

Stokes Partnership, Powrunna, St George sold Charolais cross steers to 294c/kg, reaching a top of $899 to average $700.

Institutional Investments P/L, Duarran, Roma sold Angus cross steers to 292c/kg, reaching a top of $1,136 to average $821.

JR Irwin-Bikini Charolais, Bikini, Yuleba sold Charolais steers to 280c/kg, reaching a top of $996 to average $996.

Seawright Investments, Comet Downs, Injune sold Santa steers to 275c/kg, reaching a top of $808 to average $757.

T & H Grazing, South Brae, Yuleba sold Charolais steers to 260c/kg, reaching a top of $616 to average $616. The Charolais cross heifers sold to 210c/kg, reaching a top of $522 to average $478.

Heifers under 220kg topped at 222c/kg and averaged 179c/kg, while heifers in the 220-280kg range topped at 256c/kg and averaged 200c/kg. Heifers in the 280-350kg range topped at 270c/kg, averaging 222c/kg. Heifers in the 350-450kg range topped at 277c/kg, averaging 246c/kg.

PD & SE Joliffe, Walhallow, Amby sold Santa cross heifers to 277c/kg, reaching a top of $1,170 to average $1,087.

West Farming P/L, Loomeah, Roma sold Angus cross heifers to 270c/kg, reaching a top of $945, to average $923. Nissi Farming sold Hereford cross heifers to 264c/kg, reaching a top of $1,037 to average $886.

Cows in the 300-400kg range reached 230c/kg and averaged 144c/kg, while cows in the 400kg-500kg range reached 241c/kg and averaged 192c/kg. Cows over 500kg topped at 243c/kg, averaging 221c/kg.

WJ, WJ, NO & B Hartley, Bowen Downs, Aramac sold Brahman cross cows to 243c/kg, reaching a top of $1,431 to average $1,297.

DK & DEM Williams, Woodlands, Wyandra sold Droughtmaster cross cows to 230c/kg, reaching a top of $1,265 to average $992.
