Roma store sale 8 Oct 2019: Prices rise in 50th anniversary sale

Landmark Agent Rod Turner with representative Ben Whip from Roma Downs, Roma with a line of Angus steers at last week’s Roma Store Sale. The steers sold to 292c/kg, reaching a top of $1,136 to average $821.

Yarding 5430 Change 1070

Cattle numbers rose by 1,070 head to 5,430 at the 50th anniversary Roma Store Sale.

Cattle were drawn from South West Qld where the dry conditions continue.

https://www.nh-foods.com.au/The usual buyer panel was present and operating. Steers and heifers dominated the yarding with an increase in grown steer numbers.

Overall prices mostly improved despite the mixed quality of cattle yarded. A large sample of light weight yearling steers under 280kg to restockers rose by 9c/kg. Medium weight yearling steers under 330kg rose by 9c to 23c/kg. Medium weight yearling steers under 400kg rose by 10c to 37c/kg.

Light weight yearling heifers under 280kg to restockers rose by 14c/kg. Medium weight yearling heifers under 330kg to feed rose by 7c/kg. Medium weight yearling heifers under 400kg to feed fell by 6c/kg.

Medium weight 3 score cows rose by 6c while heavy weight 4 score cows rose by 4c/kg.

Heavy weight bulls continued to perform well with increases of 15c to 23c/kg.

Light weight yearling steers under 280kg to restockers sold to 298.2c to average 283c/kg. Medium weight yearling steers under 330kg to feed sold to 294.2c to average 285c/kg. Medium weight yearling steers under 400kg sold to 295.2 to average 285c/kg. Heavy weight yearling steers over 400kg to feed sold to 298.2c to average 293c/kg.

Light weight yearling heifers under 280kg to restockers sold to 258.2c to average 233c/kg. Medium weight yearling heifers under 330kg to feed made to 266.2c to average 245c/kg. Heavy weight yearling heifers over 400kg to feed sold to 265.2c to average 239c/kg.

The best of the grown steers sold to 310.2c to average 298c/kg. Grown heifers made to 243.2c to average 235c/kg.

Medium weight 3 score cows sold to 233.2c to average 220c/kg. Heavy weight 3 score cows sold to 232.2c to average 213c and the heavy weight 4 score cows made to 241.2c to average 240c/kg.

The best of the heavy weight bulls made to 284.2c to average 280c/kg.

Weaner steers under 220kg topped at 308c/kg and averaged 260c/kg, weaner steers in the 220-280kg range reached 308c/kg and averaged 270c/kg. Steers in the 280- 350kg range reached 298c/kg and averaged 260c/kg, and steers in the 350-400kg range reached 295c/kg and averaged 275c/kg. Feeder steers in the 400-550kg range topping at 310c/kg and averaging 284c/kg.

Caberfeidh Partnership, Caber Feidh, Aramac sold Sana cross steers to 308c/kg, reaching a top of $1,573 to average $1,439. The Santa heifers sold to 276c/kg, reaching a top of $1,318 to average $1,157.

RD, DM & WA Baker, Iona, Meandarra sold Santa cross steers to 308c/kg, reaching a top of $800 to average $700.

RH & RJ West, Roleen, Wallumbilla sold Hereford cross steers to 298c/kg, reaching a top of $1,491 to average $1,382.

Ryan Brothers, Carlow Station, Blackall sold Santa cross steers to 298c/kg, reaching a top of $890 to average $772. The Santa heifers sold to 260c/kg, reaching a top of $761 to average $582.

Moorlands Grazing Co, Moorlands, Blackall sold Santa cross steers to 296c/kg, reaching a top of $1,530 to average $1,433.

Acacia Nominees Pty Ltd, Bellarra, Surat sold Angus cross steers to 295c/kg, reaching a top of $1,398 to average $1,309.

TM Dawes, Barr Park, Roma sold Charolais cross steers to 295c/kg, reaching a top of $1,178 to average $1,072.

Heifers under 220kg topped at 258c/kg and averaged 176c/kg, while heifers in the 220 – 280kg range topped at 262c/kg and averaged 208c/kg. Heifers in the 280- 350kg range topped at 266c/kg, averaging 230c/kg. Heifers in the 350-450kg range topped at 265c/kg, averaging 225c/kg.

Seifert Belmont Reds, Flag Springs, Auburn sold Santa heifers to 266c/kg, reaching a top of $810 to average $671.

CN & SH Nason, Banoona, Yuleba sold Composite heifers to 260c/kg, reaching a top of $1,008 to average $860.

Bundulla Grazing Co, Brenian, Roma sold Brahman cross heifers to 258c/kg, reaching a top of $695 to average $549.

RG & B Mobbs, Wallambank, Bollon sold Charolais heifers to 230c/kg, reaching a top of $704 to average $611.

Cows in the 300-400kg range reached 224c/kg and averaged 140c/kg, while cows in the 400kg-500kg range reached 233c/kg and averaged 177c/kg. Cows over 500kg topped at 241c/kg, averaging 222c/kg.

Hillview Grazing, Rocksville, Charleville sold Cross breed cows to 240c/kg, reaching a top of $1,220 to average $1,220.
