Roma store 24 Nov 2020: Southern restocker demand pulls back

Cattle were mostly drawn from the local supply area with the exception of a large run out of Boulia.

Steers and heifers were yarded in similar numbers and the overall quality of the yarding varied, with prices reflective of quality variations. Light weight cattle were yarded in limited numbers.

A smaller buying panel was present with all regular processors and feedlots operating, however southern restockers were absent. Steers eased across all categories, with light weight steers down by 14c to 17c/kg.

Feedlot competition remained strong, however medium weight feeders under 400kg eased by 22c, while heavy weight feeder steers eased by 15c/kg.

Light weight yearling heifers under 200kg improved by 13c, but light weight weight heifers under 280kg fell by 13c to 24c/kg. Grown heifers saw improvements of 3c to 21c/kg. Medium weight cows to restockers improved by 14c/kg. Medium weight cows to processors fell by 3c to 13c, while heavy weight cows fell by 13c to 16c/kg.

Light weight yearling steers under 200kg to restockers sold to 560.2c to average 531c/kg. The largest sample of light weight yearling steers under 280kg to restockers made to 539.2c to average 493c/kg. Medium weight yearling steers under 330kg to feed sold to 490.2c to average 441c/kg. Medium weight yearling steers under 400kg to feed made to 454.2c to average 426c/kg. Heavy weight yearling steers over 400kg to feed reached a top of 428.2c to average 419c/kg.

Light weight yearling heifers under 200kg to restockers reached a top of 522.2c to average 496c/kg. The largest sample of light weight yearling heifers under 280kg to restockers made to 532.2c to average 477c/kg. Medium weight yearling heifers under 330kg to restockers sold to 466.2c to average 440c/kg.

The best of the grown steers sold to 385.2c to average 382c/kg. The best of the grown heifers reached a top of 362.2c to average 340c/kg.

Medium weight store cows to restockers sold to 316.2c to average 300c/kg. While the medium weight 3 score cows to processors sold to a top of 301.2c to average 288c/kg. Heavy weight 3 score cows made to 302.2c to average 292c/kg. The heavy weight 4 score cows sold to a top of 304.2c to average 303c/kg. The best of the heavy weight bulls made to 330.2c to average 320c/kg.

Cows and calves reached a top of $2060/unit.
