Roma store sale 2 April: Rain reduces yarding; demand remains strong

With Easter concluded and possibility of more rain ahead Roma agents yarded only 1230 head yesterday.

All the regular processors were active, however not all lotfeeders were present with restockers showing interest.

Prices improved slightly on most categories.  Lightweight yearling steers less than 200kg showed least improvement selling to 400c/kg. Yearling steers 200-280kg improved and sold from 312c to 482c to average 422c/kg. Yearling steers 280-330kg also improved and made to 408c/kg. Yearling steers 330-400kg to restockers sold from 358c to 370c/kg with the over 400kg selling to 328c.  Yearling heifers 200-280kg made to 330c/kg. Yearling heifers 280-330kg to restockers made from 226c to 332c. Yearling heifers 330-400kg to feed improved by almost 25c and sold from 240c to 290c to average 271c. Yearling heifers 400-480kg topped at 286c and sold from 230c. Yearling heifers over 480kg to processors made to 275c/kg. Grown heifers over 540kg sold from 250c to 270c. The 2 score cows 400-520kg made from 160c to 212c/kg with the 3 score cows to 240c/kg. The 3 score cows over 520kg also selling to 240c/kg. A run of preg-tested Brahman cows sold to 250c/kg. The best of the heavy weight bulls to 258c/kg.  Market Reporter David Friend

BJ & DM Cooke, Openbah, Dirranbandi, sold Simmental cross steers to 482c/kg, reaching a top of $1,398 to average $1,275. The Simmental cross heifers sold to 332c/kg, reaching a top of $1,732 to average $839.

Pat Smith, Openbah, Dirranbandi, sold Simbrah cross steers to 460c/kg, reaching a top of $1,314 to average $1,194.

Regan & Tahlia Jensen, Glen Eden, Texas sold Charolais cross steers to 452c/kg, reaching a top of $1,223 to average $1,054. The Charolais cross heifers sold to 310c/kg, reaching a top $754 to average $738.

Brekan Pastoral, Warragul Springs, Tingun sold Charolais cross steers to 446c/kg, reaching a top of $1,027 to average $1,027. The Charolais cross heifers sold to 310c/kg, reaching atop of $784 to average $697.

CM #2, Lagoon Creek, Roma sold Santa Gertrudis cross steers to 416c/kg, reaching a top of $1,333 to average $1,296. The Charolais cross heifers sold to 330c/kg, reaching a top of $969 to average $969.

Strathbogie Partners, Strathbogie, St George sold Braford cross steers to 382c/kg, reaching a top of $1,269 to average $1,147.
