Roma sale 31 May 2022: Yarding increases to 4980 head

4,980 head were yarded at the Roma Store sale, up in numbers by 2,868. The yarding was comprised of mostly local cattle with some very good quality lines presented. A large buying panel with an increased restocker presence was operating including all regular processors. Overall the improvement in quality and increase in numbers of light weight steers and heifers was reflected in the top end prices, with the yarding mostly seeing improvements across young cattle. Light weight steers under 280kg improved by 19c to 51c, while medium weight steers under 330kg to feed improved by 33c/kg. Steers under 400kg to feed eased by 5c/kg. Heavy weight feeder steers remained unchanged from the previous week. Heifers varied with light weight heifers to restockers up by 13c to 82c, and medium weight heifers under 300kg down by 3c to 5c/kg. Cows eased in price with medium weight cows to processors down by 12c to 16c, and heavy weight cows down by 9c to 12c/kg.

Light weight steers under 200kg made to 846.2c to average 740c/kg. Yearling steers under 280kg to restockers made to 838.2c to average 766c/kg. Medium weight yearling steers under 330kg to restockers sold to 786.2c to average 676c/kg. Yearling steers under 400kg to restockers made to 764.2c to average 640c/kg. Heavy weight yearling steers to feed reached a top of 586.2c to average 546c/kg. Light weight yearling heifers under 200kg to restockers made to 700.2c to average 689c/kg. Yearling heifers under 280kg to restockers made to 656.2c to average 610c/kg. Medium weight yearling heifers under 330kg to restockers sold to 594.2c to average 548c/kg. Yearling heifers under 400kg to restockers reached a top of 595.2c to average 558c/kg. Heavy weight yearling heifers to restockers made to 542.2c to average 532c/kg.

Grown steers to feed reached 450.2c to average 450c/kg. Grown heifers under 540kg made to 420.2c to average 379c/kg. Red tag EU PTIC cows to restockers sold at open auction to a top of $2,625/head. Medium weight prime cows made to 372.2c to average 371c/kg. Heavy weight prime cows reached a top of 381.2c to average 376c/kg. Heavy weight bulls made to 362.2c to average 343c/kg. The small number of cows and calves sold to a top of $2,580/unit.

A total of 4,980 head of cattle were consigned at Roma’s Store Sale on Tuesday.

Weaner steers under 220kg topped at 846c/kg and averaged 748c/kg, weaner steers in the 220-280kg range reached 830c/kg and averaged 742c/kg. Steers in the 280-350kg range reached 786c/kg and averaged 663c/kg, and steers in the 350-400kg range reached 680c/kg and averaged 586c/kg. Feeder steers in the 400-550kg range topping at 586c/kg and averaging 529c/kg. Cows and calves hit $2,580/unit.

Nixon Pastoral Co, Kenmore, Charleville, sold Charolais cross steers to 838c/kg, reaching a top of $2,371 to average $2,022. The Charolais cross heifers sold to 644/kg, reaching a top of $1,599 to average $1,449.

Coolibah Livestock Co, Coolibah, Moura, sold Droughtmaster cross steers to 830c/kg, reaching a top of $1,596 to average $1,471.

Andromeda Cattle Company, Eddington, Mungallala, sold Charolais cross steers to 816c/kg, reaching a top of $2,050 to average $2,037.

MRB Contracting, Mossview Lodge, Roma, sold Angus cross steers to 812c/kg, reaching a top of $1,700 to average $1,700. The Angus cross heifers sold to 656c/kg, reaching a top of $1,345 to average $1,345.
