Roma sale 7 June 2022: Competition strong for rain affected yarding

Another rain affected yarding saw numbers fall to 2,809 head at the Roma Store sale. The yarding was very mixed in quality with reduced numbers of local cattle. A good buying panel was present and operating including all regular processors. Steers accounted for over half of the yarding. Competition remained strong for quality cattle, again reflected in the increasing top end prices for light and medium weight steers with price fluctuations reflective of quality variations. Light weight steers to restockers improved by 35c to 36c, and medium weight steers to restockers improved by 11c to 43c/kg. Heavy weight steers to feed eased by 7c/kg. Light weight heifers under 280kg to restockers fell by 20c, however medium weight heifers under 330kg to restockers improved by 42c/kg. Prime cows held firm from the previous week.

Light weight steers under 200kg made to 826.2c to average 775c/kg. Yearling steers under 280kg to restockers made to 806.2c to average 725c/kg. Medium weight yearling steers under 330kg to restockers sold to 860.2c to average 720c/kg. Yearling steers under 400kg to restockers made to 748.2c to average 651c/kg. Heavy weight yearling steers to feed reached a top of 588.2c to average 539c/kg. Light weight yearling heifers under 200kg to restockers made to 800.2c to average 567c/kg. Yearling heifers under 280kg to restockers made to 660.2c to average 589c/kg. Medium weight yearling heifers under 330kg to restockers sold to 636.2c to average 590c/kg. Yearling heifers under 400kg to feed reached a top of 555.2c to average 553c/kg. Heavy weight yearling heifers to restockers made to 560.2c to average 533c/kg.

Grown steers to restockers reached 472.2c to average 472c/kg. Grown heifers under 540kg made to 416.2c to average 403c/kg. Medium weight prime cows made to 374.2c to average 371c/kg. Heavy weight prime cows reached a top of 382.2c to average 375c/kg. Heavy weight bulls made to 371.2c to average 369c/kg. The small number of cows and calves sold to a top of $2,000/unit.

Weaner steers under 220kg topped at 826c/kg and averaged 635c/kg, weaner steers in the 220-280kg range reached 806c/kg and averaged 701c/kg.

Steers in the 280- 350kg range reached 860c/kg and averaged 648c/kg, and steers in the 350-400kg range reached 702c/kg and averaged 562c/kg. Feeder steers in the 400-550kg range topping at 588c/kg and averaging 522c/kg.

Whitton Cattle Co, Myrtleville, Injune sold Charolais cross steers to 860c/kg reaching a top of $2,488 to average $2,393. The Angus cross heifers sold to 616c/kg reaching a top of $1,906 to average $1,800.

Sue Kneebone, Tchanning, Jackson sold Droughtmaster cross steers to 826c/kg reaching a top of $2,014 to average $1,684. The Droughtmaster cross heifers sold to 594c/kg reaching a top of $1,128 to average $1,113.

Newton Grazing, Monavale, Injune sold Charolais cross steers to 806c/kg reaching a top of $1,913 to average $1,913. The Charolais cross heifers sold to 608c/kg reaching a top of $1,439 to average $1,439.

P & K Arthy, Coogoon, Roma sold Angus cross steers to 800c/kg reaching a top of $2,491 to average $2,423.

NJ Close & DL Summerville, Wilga Park, Surat sold Angus cross steers to 776c/kg reaching a top of $2,250 to average $1,900.

EJ & JH Rose, Woodside Station, Charleville sold Angus cross steers to 774c/kg reaching a top of $2,391 to average $2,258.

GT & LJ Proud, Woodstock, Roma sold Santa cross steers to 762c/kg reaching a top of $1,696 to average $1,696. The Santa heifers sold to 660c/kg reaching a top of $1,972 to average $1,492.

SJ Phillips, Strathvale, Ballaroo sold Droughtmaster cross steers to 756c/kg reaching a top of $2,206 to average $2,019. Wythburn Grazing sold Angus cross steers to 726c/kg reaching a top of $2,500 to average $2,319.
