Roma sale 14 June 2022: Numbers rise sharply

Yarding 6699 Change 3890

Numbers rose sharply to 6,699 at the Roma Store sale up by 3,890 head. Cattle were drawn from a wide supply area and included numbers of quality local lines. A good buying panel was present and operating however one regular processor was absent. Steers accounted for over half of the yarding. Competition remained strong for quality cattle, however overall prices mostly eased for steers while heifers improved in places. Cows eased with reduced processor competition. Light weight steers fell by 25c to 97c, however heavy weight steers improved by 8c to 28c/kg. Light weight heifers to restockers improved by 13c to 67c, and heavy weight heifers improved by 36c to 98c/kg. Heavy weight prime cows eased by 16c to 17c/kg.

Light weight steers under 200kg made to 734.2c to average 679c/kg. Quality local Angus EU yearling steers under 280kg to restockers make to 794.2c to average 700c/kg. Medium weight yearling steers under 330kg to restockers sold to 748.2c to average 655c/kg. Yearling steers under 400kg to restockers made to 714.2c to average 621c/kg. Heavy weight yearling steers to feed included a run of quality Angus lines and reached a top of 621.2c to average 561c/kg. Light weight yearling heifers under 200kg to restockers made to 655.2c to average 631c/kg. Yearling heifers under 280kg to restockers made to 688.2c to average 602c/kg. Medium weight yearling heifers under 330kg to restockers sold to 634.2c to average 576c/kg. Yearling heifers under 400kg to feed reached a top of 530.2c to average 513c/kg. Heavy weight yearling heifers to restockers made to 550.2c to average 533c/kg.

The largest sample of grown steers reached a top of 482.2c to average 467c/kg. Grown heifers under 540kg made to 490.2c to average 437c/kg. A run of PTIC heifers saw the red tags sell at open auction to a top of $2,875/head. Medium weight prime cows made to 355.2c to average 355c/kg. Heavy weight prime cows reached a top of 365.2c to average 359c/kg. Heavy weight bulls made to 320.2c to average 293c/kg. The increased number of cows and calves sold to a top of $3,575/unit.

Weaner steers under 220kg topped at 742c/kg and averaged 614c/kg, weaner steers in the 220-280kg range reached 794c/kg and averaged 693c/kg. Steers in the 280-350kg range reached 750c/kg and averaged 635c/kg, and steers in the 350-400kg range reached 660c/kg and averaged 556c/kg. Feeder steers in the 400-550kg range topping at 621c/kg and averaging 519c/kg.

Seawright Investments, Comet Downs, Injune, sold Santa steers to 756c/kg, reaching a top of $1,852 to average $1,852.

Devbar Pty Ltd, Peppercorn, St George, sold Santa cross steers to 750c/kg, reaching a top of $1,748 to average $1,534. The Santa cross heifers sold to 632c/kg, reaching a top of $1,380 to average $1,207.

John Russell, Culbara, Roma, sold Angus cross steers to 742c/kg, reaching a top of $2,133 to average $2,039.
