Roma sale 7 Feb 2023: Heavy prime cattle rise 10-20c

Roma combined agents yarded a total of 3,724, down by 1,552 head.

Most cattle were sourced from local areas alongside two consignments from western NSW.

Overall quality of yearling cattle was fairly mixed and while restockers were the main buyers of medium weight cattle, they operated selectively, and most categories of yearlings eased on previous weeks.

Heavy prime cattle were the exception with the addition of an extra northern export processor, most classes lifted 10 to 20c/kg.

Light weight restocker steers eased by 36c selling to 566.2c to average 490.2c, with ‘D’ muscle pens averaging 411c/kg.

Steers 280 to 330kgs held firm selling to 526.2c to average 474c/kg.

Restockers paid up to 470.2c for medium weight steers averaging 436c and those direct to the feedlot sold to 442.2c/kg.

Fewer numbers of heavy feeder steers were yarded with the top pen selling to 406.2c to average 389c/kg.

Young grown steers sold up to 377.2c averaging around 364c with grown steers selling to 365.2c/kg.

Processors were active on light weight restocker heifers selling to 434.2c to average 413c/kg. Medium weight heifers to the restocker slipped by 30c this week selling to 386.2c to average 367c/kg.

Heavy heifers to the processor made to a top of 348c to average 333c/kg.

An extra export buyer saw cows lift 10-20c with medium cows topping at 307c to average 287c and good heavy cows over 520kg sold to 319.2c to average 311c/kg.

Cows and calves sold to $2180/ unit.

A total of 3,724 head of cattle were consigned at Roma’s Store Sale on Tuesday.

Weaner steers under 200kg topped at 565c/kg and averaged 402c/kg, weaner steers in the 200-280kg range reached 566c/kg and averaged 476c/kg. Steers in the 280-330kg range reached 526c/kg and averaged 452c/kg, and steers in the 330-400kg range reached 470c/kg and averaged 402c/kg. Feeder steers in the 400-500kg range topping at 406c/kg and averaging 384c/kg.

TC Grazing, Tarossie, Jackson sold Angus cross steers to 566c/kg, reaching a top of $1,141 to average $1,141.

Newton Grazing, Monavale, Gunnewin sold Charolais cross steers to 556c/kg, reaching a top of $1,506 to average $1,506. The Charolais cross heifers sold to 434c/kg, reaching a top of $1,172 to average $1,172. The Brahman cross cows sold to 320c/kg, reaching a top of $1,802 to average $1,692.

BP & LA Knight, Glenogie, Lightning Ridge NSW sold Speckle Park cross steers to 514c/kg, reaching a top of $1,672 to average $1,512.

T.L. & C.J. Vincent, Hidden Springs, Injune sold Charolais steers to 496c/kg, reaching a top of $1,566 to average $1,329.

WJ & EC Groat Family Trust, Gracemere, Forest Vale sold Droughtmaster cross steers to 494c/kg, reaching a top of $1,562 to average $1,489. The Droughtmaster cross cows sold to 318c/kg, reaching a top of $1,872 to average $1,576.

Bangor Cattle Co Pty Ltd, Bangor, Mungallala sold Brahman steers to 490c/kg, reaching a top of $1,660 to average $1,379. The Brahman cross heifers sold to 376c/kg, reaching a top of $952 to average $898.
