Yarding 7100 Change +3376

Worsening seasonal conditions across southern Queensland pushed numbers up to 7,100 head at Roma this week, which included 2,000 head from central and northern NSW.

Overall quality was good and despite the extra numbers, buyer support was firm and prices remained similar to those of last week.

There was a large variance in quality of heifer pens this week and restocker heifers 280 to 330kg lost ground.

Prices of prime cattle returned to those of a fortnight ago, due to the absence of a northern processor.

Light weight restocker steers were firm to slightly dearer this week selling to 556.2c with most around 494c/kg. Medium weight steers eased slightly with those returning to the paddock selling to 472.2c to average 428c/kg. Heavy yearling steers to feed held firm making to 418.2c to average 389c/kg.

Light weight restocker heifers sold to 460.2c to average 397c/kg. Restockers paid up to 398.2c for heifers returning to the paddock to average 372c/kg. F

ewer pens of grown steers made to 372.2c this week with most averaging 351c/kg.

A run of PTIC grown heifers sold to 362.2c to average 346c/kg. Medium cows held firm selling to 302.2c averaging 289c while heavy cows lost 12c selling to 313.2c to average 298c/kg.

Cows and calves sold to $2170/unit.

A total of 7,033 head of cattle were consigned at Roma’s Store Sale on Tuesday.

Weaner steers under 200kg topped at 546c/kg and averaged 477c/kg, weaner steers in the 200-280kg range reached 556c/kg and averaged 474c/kg.

Steers in the 280-330kg range reached 508c/kg and averaged 455c/kg, and steers in the 330-400kg range reached 470c/kg and averaged 415c/kg.

Feeder steers in the 400-500kg range topping at 418c/kg and averaging 386c/kg. Rosehearty Grazing Co, Koonong Downs sold Santa Gertrudis cross steers to 536c/kg, reaching a top of $1,428 to average $1,428.

The Santa Gertrudis cross heifers sold to 418c/kg, reaching a top of $1,029 to average $1,029. The Santa Gertrudis cows sold to 302c/kg, reaching a top of $1,893 to average $1,715. The Charolais cross cow and calves sold to $2,150 per unit, averaging $2,150 per unit.
