Roma store sale 24 Aug 2021: Prices improve across most sections

At the Roma store sale last Tuesday, August 17, Nutrien Roma agent Rod Turner was pictured with a line of AJM Pastoral heifers. The heifers sold to 576c/kg, reaching a top of $1,472 to average $1.099.

Yarding 4451 Change -2305

Cattle were mostly drawn from the usual supply area and included good numbers of local cattle.

Steers and heifers were yarded in similar numbers.

The overall quality of the yarding was good with increased numbers of light weight steers from the previous week.

A smaller but competitive buying panel was present and operating, including all regular processors.

The market remained strong, with prices mostly improved across the yarding.

Light weight steers improved by 13c to 31c, and medium weight steers improved by 17c to 53c/kg.

Light weight heifers to paddock or feed improved by 49c to 76c, however medium weight heifers to feed fell by 2c/kg.

Prime cows were in reduced supply however processor competition remained strong with price fluctuations reflective of quality variations. Heavy weight 3 score cows remained unchanged from last week however heavy weight 4 score prime cows fell by 5c/kg.

Light weight yearling steers under 200kg sold to a top of 678.2c to average 669c/kg. Yearling steers under 280kg to restockers made to 670.2c to average 645c/kg. Medium weight yearling steers under 330kg to restockers sold to 624.2c to average 598c/kg. Yearling steers under 400kg to restockers made to a top of 602.2c to average 572c/kg. Heavy weight yearling steers over 400kg to feed reached a top of 540.2c to average 504c/kg.

Light weight yearling heifers under 200kg to restockers reached a top of 634.2c to average 614c/kg. Yearling heifers under 280kg to restockers made to 622.2c to average 586c/kg. Medium weight yearling heifers under 330kg to restockers sold to 574.2c to average 551c/kg. Yearling heifers under 400kg to restockers reached a top of 560.2c to average 539c/kg. Heavy weight yearling heifers over 400kg to feed made to a top of 468.2c to average 433c/kg.

The largest sample of grown steers to feed made to 474.2c to average 457c/kg.

The best of the grown heifers to feed sold to a top of 380.2c to average 374c/kg.

Medium weight cows to restockers reached a top of 386.2c to average 325c/kg. Heavy weight 3 score cows reached a top of 338.2c to average 332c/kg. Heavy weight 4 score prime cows made to a top of 358.2c to average 345c/kg.

The best of the heavy weight bulls reached a top of 376.2c to average 365c/kg.

Cows and calves made to a top of $2640/unit.
