Roma store sale 31 Aug 2021: North west influx lifts yarding

Cattle were drawn from a wide supply area. Females accounted for over half of the yarding, including a large run of Northern PTIC heifers.

The overall quality of the yarding varied, with steers mostly drawn from the usual supply area, while a large proportion of the heifers were drawn from North-West Queensland.

A good buying panel was present and operating, including all regular processors.

Buyers continue to compete strongly for quality cattle, which saw an increase in top end prices for steers, however average prices eased across the steers and heifers due to quality variations.

Light weight steers to restockers fell by 12c to 19c, however light weight steers to feed improved by 19c/kg. Medium weight steers to feed fell by 30c to 33c, while heavy weight steers to feed fell by 2c/kg.

Light weight heifers fell by 36c to 78c while medium weight heifers eased in price 57c to 113c/kg. However heavy weight heifers rose by 7c to 50c/kg.

Prime cows continue with good gains, with heavy weight 4 score cows up by 24c/kg.

Light weight yearling steers under 200kg sold to a top of 684.2c to average 674c/kg.

Yearling steers under 280kg to restockers made to 672.2c to average 621c/kg. Medium weight yearling steers under 330kg to feed sold to 605.2c to average 571c/kg. Yearling steers under 400kg to feed made to a top of 578.2c to average 538c/kg. Heavy weight yearling steers over 400kg to feed reached a top of 542.2c to average 502c/kg.

Light weight yearling heifers under 200kg to restockers reached a top of 626.2c to average 558c/kg. Yearling heifers under 280kg to restockers made to 616.2c to average 508c/kg. Medium weight yearling heifers under 330kg to restockers sold to 594.2c to average 487c/kg. Yearling heifers under 400kg to feed reached a top of 530.2c to average 409c/kg. Heavy weight yearling heifers over 400kg to feed made to a top of 478.2c to average 440c/kg.

The best of the grown steers to feed made to 490.2c to average 466c/kg.

The best of the grown heifers sold to a top of 400.2c to average 368c/kg.

A large consignment of PTIC grown heifers sold on a dollars per head basis with the best of the red tags reaching $2020/head. Medium weight PTIC cows reached a top of 394.2c to average 359c/kg. Heavy weight 3 score cows reached a top of 338.2c to average 324c/kg. Heavy weight 4 score prime cows made to a top of 384.2c to average 369c/kg.

The best of the heavy weight bulls reached a top of 373.2c to average 360c/kg. Cows and calves made to a top of $2140/unit.
