Roma store sale 7 Sep 2021: Smaller yarding to kick off Spring

Females dominated the yarding and again included a large run of Northern PTIC heifers.

The overall quality of the yarding varied, with a good portion drawn from Western and North-West Queensland.

A good buying panel was present and operating, including all regular processors.

Competition remained strong for quality cattle with top end prices increasing, however steers mostly eased, while heifers and cows saw improvements.

Light weight steers under 200kg fell by 16c, however steers under 280kg to restockers improved by 17c/kg. Medium weight steers to feed fell by 19c to 24c, while heavy weight steers to feed fell by 6c/kg.

Light weight heifers rose by 8c to 61c/kg. Medium weight heifers to feed improved by 50c to 69c/kg.

Heavy weight cows were yarded in reduced numbers, and improved in price by 6c to 33c/kg.

Light weight yearling steers under 200kg sold to a top of 692.2c to average 658c/kg. Yearling steers under 280kg to restockers were in the largest sample of steers for the day and made to 690.2c to average 638c/kg. Medium weight yearling steers under 330kg to restockers sold to 622.2c to average 541c/kg. Yearling steers under 400kg to restockers made to a top of 576.2c to average 510c/kg. Heavy weight yearling steers over 400kg to feed reached a top of 502.2c to average 496c/kg.

Light weight yearling heifers under 200kg to restockers reached a top of 658.2c to average 619c/kg. Yearling heifers under 280kg to restockers made to 628.2c to average 525c/kg. Medium weight yearling heifers under 330kg to restockers sold to 544.2c to average 493c/kg. Yearling heifers under 400kg to feed reached a top of 530.2c to average 478c/kg. Heavy weight yearling heifers over 400kg to feed made to a top of 460.2c to average 460c/kg.

There were limited numbers of grown steers yarded.

The best of the grown heifers sold to a top of 406.2c to average 405c/kg.

A large consignment of PTIC grown heifers sold at open auction with the best of the red tags reaching $2320/head.

Heavy weight 3 score cows reached a top of 366.2c to average 358c/kg.

Heavy weight 4 score prime cows made to a top of 381.2c to average 375c/kg. The best of the heavy weight bulls reached a top of 390.2c to average 379c/kg.

Cows and calves made to a top of $2500/unit.
