Roma store sale 21 Sep 2021: Western cattle feature in 7052 head yarding

Numbers rose by 577 head to see a total yarding of 7,052 at the Roma Store sale with steers and heifers yarded in similar numbers.

The overall quality of the yarding remains mixed and continues to include numbers from Western and North-West Queensland, however a large portion of cattle were drawn from the local supply area and prime cows were in short supply.

A good buying panel was present and operating, with all regular processors present, however one was not operating.

Competition remained strong for quality cattle with steers mostly improving while heifers eased in places.

Light weight steers under 280kg eased by 2c to 24c/kg. Medium weight steers under 330kg improved by 20c to 35c, and steers under 400kg improved by 13c to 65c/kg.

Light weight heifers to restockers improved by 26c to 30c, while medium weight heifers under 330kg to feed fell by 8c/kg.

The limited number of heavy weight cows improved by 2c to 8c/kg despite reduced processor competition.

Light weight yearling steers under 200kg sold to a top of 648.2c to average 622c/kg.

Yearling steers under 280kg to restockers were the largest sample of steers for the day and made to 666.2c to average 617c/kg. Medium weight yearling steers under 330kg to restockers sold to 652.2c to average 624c/kg. Yearling steers under 400kg to feed made to a top of 620.2c to average 591c/kg. Heavy weight yearling steers over 400kg to feed reached a top of 502.2c to average 447c/kg.

Light weight yearling heifers under 200kg to restockers reached a top of 648.2c to average 570c/kg. Yearling heifers under 280kg to restockers made to 656.2c to average 573c/kg. Medium weight yearling heifers under 330kg to restockers sold to 586.2c to average 503c/kg. Medium weight yearling heifers under 400kg to restockers reached a top of 510.2c to average 482c/kg. Heavy weight yearling heifers over 400kg to feed made to a top of 458.2c to average 396c/kg.

The best of the grown steers made to 408.2c to average 382c/kg. Grown heifers to processors sold to a top of 375.2c to average 363c/kg.

PTIC grown heifers sold at open auction with the best of the red tags reaching $2160/head.

Heavy weight 3 score cows reached a top of 375.2c to average 369c/kg. Heavy weight 4 score prime cows made to a top of 386.2c to average 379c/kg. The best of the heavy weight bulls reached a top of 374.2c to average 355c/kg.

Cows and calves made to a top of $2450/unit.
