Roma sale 5 April 2022: Firm market for 5139 head

Numbers rose to 5,139, up by 1,270 at the Roma Store Sale, down from expectations due to recent rainfall over the weekend. Cattle were drawn from a wide supply area, with numbers continuing to arrive from the west, including larger single vendor lines of females. The quality varied and females were yarded in increased numbers.

A larger buying panel with an increased restocker presence was present and operating, including all regular processors.

Overall the market remained firm from the previous week, with prices reflective of quality variations, however quality cattle remained in demand and steers saw small positive movements across most categories, while heifers eased in places. Medium weight steers under 330kg improved by 3c, while medium weight steers under 400kg to feed improved by 7c/kg. Heavy weight steers to feed improved by 30c/kg. Medium weight heifers under 300kg fell by 24c to 55c/kg. Medium weight prime cows remained unchanged, while heavy weight prime cows fell by 6c/kg.

The limited numbers of light weight yearling steers under 200kg sold to a top of 784.2c to average 761c/kg. Light weight yearling steers under 280kg to restockers made to 744.2c to average 671c/kg. Medium weight yearling steers under 330kg to restockers were the largest sample for the day and sold to 708.2c to average 662c/kg. Yearling steers under 400kg to restockers made to 670.2c to average 608c/kg. Heavy weight yearling steers to feed reached a top of 606.2c to average 547c/kg. Light weight yearling heifers under 200kg to restockers were in limited supply and made to 620.2c to average 507c/kg. Yearling heifers under 280kg to restockers also made to 620.2c to average 562c/kg. Medium weight yearling heifers under 330kg to restockers sold to 632.2c to average 582c/kg. Yearling heifers under 400kg to restockers reached a top of 596.2c to average 585c, while heavy weight yearling heifers to feed made to 576c to average 550c/kg.

The best of the heavy weight grown steers made to 438.2c to average 431c/kg. Medium weight grown heifers to made to 398.2c to average 380c/kg. PTIC red tag quality heifers sold at open auction to a top of $3060/head. Medium weight prime cows made to 373.2c to average 363c/kg. Heavy weight prime cows reached a top of 381.2c to average 366c/kg. Heavy weight bulls made to 385.2c to average 365c/kg. The increased number of cows and calves sold to a top of $3,550/unit.

Weaner steers under 220kg topped at 784c/kg and averaged 734c/kg, weaner steers in the 220-280kg range reached 744c/kg and averaged 633c/kg. Steers in the 280-350kg range reached 708c/kg and averaged 591c/kg, and steers in the 350-400kg range reached 642c/kg and averaged 587c/kg. Feeder steers in the 400-550kg range topping at 606c/kg and averaging 521c/kg.

Cows and calves hit $3,550/unit.

Seawright Investments, Comet Downs, Injune sold Santa cross steers to 744c/kg reaching a top of $2,336, to average $2,068. The Santa cross heifers sold to 600c/kg reaching a top of $1,766, to average $1,642.

HD & NJ Nelder, Khyber, Augathella sold Santa cross steers to 708c/kg reaching a top of $2,154, to average, $2,080.

FD & JK Seawright, Glenray, Yuleba sold Hereford cross steers to 686c/kg reaching a top of $2,224 to average $2,052. The Hereford heifers sold to 600c/kg reaching a top of $1,928, to average $1,698.

Burunga P/L, Rainbow Downs, Wandoan sold Santa cross steers to 680c/kg reaching a top of $2,218, to average $2,151.

Farmleigh Grazing, Farmleigh, Injune sold Droughtmaster cross steers to 658c/kg reaching a top of $2,428, to average $2,108.
