Roma sale 12 April 2022: Market easier overall for 5707

Numbers increased further this week with 5,707 head yarded at the Roma Store Sale.

Cattle were drawn from a wide supply area, with numbers continuing to arrive from the West and North-West, in a yarding of mixed quality, which was dominated by steers. A good buying panel was present and operating, including all regular processors.

Overall the market mostly eased across all categories from the previous week, with prices reflective of yarding quality, however competition on quality cattle remained strong. Medium weight steers to feed fell by 15c to 40c, while heavy weight steers to feed fell by 21c/kg. Medium weight heifers under 330kg to feed improved by 17c, while medium weight heifers under 400kg to restockers fell by 21c/kg. Store cows ell by 16c to 18c while prime cows eased by 4c/kg.

The limited numbers of light weight yearling steers under 200kg sold to a top of 646.2c to average 616c/kg. Yearling steers under 280kg to restockers made to 782.2c to average 666c/kg. Medium weight yearling steers under 330kg to restockers were the largest sample for the day and sold to 676.2c to average 629c/kg. Yearling steers under 400kg to feed made to 634.2c to average 578c/kg. Heavy weight yearling steers to feed reached a top of 572.2c to average 526c/kg. Light weight yearling heifers under 200kg to restockers were also in limited supply and made to 644.2c to average 465c/kg. Yearling heifers under 280kg to restockers made to 634.2c to average 591c/kg. Medium weight yearling heifers under 330kg to restockers sold to 648.2c to average 564c/kg. Yearling heifers under 400kg to feed reached a top of 578.2c to average 537c/kg. Heavy weight yearling heifers to feed made to 528.2c to average 445/kg.

Medium weight grown steers made to 412.2c to average 392c/kg. Grown heifers under 540kg made to 390.2c to average 380c/kg. A good number of single vendor PTIC red tag cows sold at open auction to a top of $2,160/head. Medium weight prime cows made to 360.2c to average 359c/kg. Heavy weight prime cows reached a top of 370.2c to average 362c/kg. Heavy weight bulls made to 372.2c to average 336c/kg. The reduced number of cows and calves sold to a top of $2,975/unit.

Weaner steers under 220kg topped at 782c/kg and averaged 615c/kg, weaner steers in the 220-280kg range reached 782c/kg and averaged 620c/kg. Steers in the 280-350kg range reached 676c/kg and averaged 595c/kg, and steers in the 350-400kg range reached 634c/kg and averaged 559c/kg. Feeder steers in the 400-550kg range topping at 616c/kg and averaging 502c/kg.

Cows and calves hit $2,975/unit.

KEG & RM Burey, Yarara, St George, sold Santa steers to 676c/kg reaching a top of $2,329 to average $2183.

Joy & Renee Naish, Coralbyn, Wandoan, sold Angus cross steers to 676c/kg reaching a top of $2,316 to average $2,257. The Santa cross heifers sold to 648c/kg reaching a top of $1,961 to average $1,961.

KJ & SL Boyd, Clyde Park, Porcupine, sold cross breed steers to 674c/kg reaching a top of $2,389 to average $1,820.

LJ & SA Schelberg, Dumfries, Muckadilla, sold Angus cross steers to 750c/kg reaching a top of $1,829 to average $1,829. The Angus cross heifers sold to 634c/kg reaching a top of $1,517 to average $1,517.

John Russell, Culbara, Roma, sold Charolais steers to 700c/kg reaching a top of $2,124 to average $1,964. The Angus cross heifers sold to 586c/kg reaching a top of $1,724 to average $1,693.

David Heslin, Womblebank, Mitchell, sold Composite steers to 668c/kg reaching a top of $2,291 to average $1,580.
