Roma store sale 6 April 2021: Demand firm for steers

Ray White Roma agent Jack Clanchy with a pen of Barbara Plains Grazing heifers. The heifers sold to 480c/kg, reaching a top of $1,703 to average $1,447. The steers sold to 580c/kg, reaching a top of $1,922 to average $1,731.

Cattle were drawn from a wide supply area and the quality of the yarding was good. The regular buying panel was present and operating and included feedlots, processors and restockers.

Demand remained firm across most of the steers, while heifers fluctuated and cows improved across the board.

Prices variations were reflective of quality.

The limited number of light weight steers yarded saw prices ease, however prices improved for medium weight yearling steers under 400kg by 27c to 43c, and heavy weight steers improved by 12c/kg. Medium weight heifers under 400kg improved by 4c to 40c, however heavy weight yearling heifers fell by 14c to 36c/kg.

Medium weight cows improved by 4c to 36c, while heavy weight cows improved by 30c/kg.

The limited numbers of light weight yearling steers under 200kg sold to a top of 624.2c to average 624c/kg. A good sample of light weight yearling steers under 280kg to restockers made to 640.2c to average 583c/kg. Medium weight yearling steers under 330kg to restockers sold to 570.2c to average 537c/kg. Medium weight yearling steers under 400kg to feed made to 520.2c to average 485c/kg. Heavy weight yearling steers over 400kg to feed reached a top of 446.2c to average 427c/kg.

Light weight yearling heifers under 200kg to restockers reached a top of 530.2c to average 414c/kg. Light weight yearling heifers under 280kg to restockers made to 598.2c to average 527c/kg. Medium weight yearling heifers under 330kg to restockers sold to 514.2c to average 498c/kg. Medium weight yearling heifers under 400kg to restockers reached a top of 502.2c to average 444c/kg. Heavy weight yearling heifers over 400kg to feed made to a top of 456.2c to average 384c/kg.

The best of the heavy weight grown steers sold to 400.2c to average 376c/kg.

The best of the grown heifers sold to a top of 380.2c to average 365c/kg. Medium weight PTIC cows to restockers sold to 336.2c to average 336c/kg. Heavy weight 3 score cows to processors made to 300.2c to average 297c/kg. Heavy weight 4 score cows reached a top of 310.2c to average 305c/kg. The best of the heavy weight bulls to processors made to 325.2c to average 312c/kg. Cows and calves reached a top of $2980/unit.

Steers in the 280- 350kg range reached 570c/kg and averaged 503c/kg, and steers in the 350-400kg range reached 516c/kg and averaged 466c/kg. Feeder steers in the 400-550kg range topping at 446c/kg and averaging 410c/kg. Cows and calves hit $2,980/unit.
