Roma store sale 2 March 2021: Prices ease in smaller yarding

Cattle were mostly drawn from the usual supply area and the overall quality of the yarding was mixed, particularly in the heifers.

Steers and heifers were yarded in equal numbers and cow numbers were down.

A smaller buying panel including all regular processors was present and operating.

Demand remained firm however prices mostly eased across the yarding, with improvements in limited places.

Light weight yearling steers under 200kg fell by 48c, but light weight yearling steers under 280kg improved by 24c/kg. Medium weight yearling steers under 330kg to feed improved by 6c while medium weight yearling steers to feed under 400kg fell by 5c/kg.

Light weight yearling heifers under 200kg improved by 1c while medium weight yearling heifers under 330kg to processors fell by 25c/kg. Medium weight cows fell by 3c to 15c, while heavy weight cows fell by 5c to 13c/kg.

Light weight yearling steers under 200kg were again in limited numbers and sold to a top of 584.2c to average 552c/kg.

A good sample of light weight yearling steers under 280kg to restockers made to 620.2c to average 547c/kg. Medium weight yearling steers under 330kg to restockers sold to 534.2c to average 473c/kg. Medium weight yearling steers under 400kg to restockers made to 458.2c to average 448c/kg. Heavy weight yearling steers over 400kg to feed reached a top of 438.2c to average 413c/kg.

Light weight yearling heifers under 200kg to restockers reached a top of 500.2c to average 471c/kg. Light weight yearling heifers under 280kg to restockers made to 507.2c to average 477c/kg. Medium weight yearling heifers under 330kg to restockers sold to 494.2c to average 474c/kg. Medium weight yearling heifers under 400kg to restockers made to a top of 468.2c to average 456c/kg. The best of the heavy weight grown steers sold to 360.2c to average 353c/kg.

The best of the grown heifers reached a top of 344.2c to average 336c/kg.

Medium weight 3 score cows sold to a top of 292.2c to average 290c, while the small number of medium weight 4 score cows reached a top of 297.2c to average 297c/kg.

Heavy weight 3 score cows made to 292.2c to average 289c, while the heavy weight 4 score cows sold to 296.2c to average 295c/kg.

A small sample of light weight bulls under 200kg made to 678.2c to average 678c/kg.

The best of the heavy weight bulls made to 321.2c to average 309c/kg.

Cows and calves reached a top of $2020/unit.

Steers in the 280- 350kg range reached 534c/kg and averaged 465c/kg, and steers in the 350-400kg range reached 460c/kg and averaged 437c/kg. Feeder steers in the 400-550kg range topping at 442c/kg and averaging 389c/kg. Cows and calves hit $2,020/unit.
