Roma store sale 12 Nov 2019: Yarding swells by 5000

Cattle numbers rose by 5112 to 8052 head at the Roma Store Sale as dry conditions continue to prevail.

Cattle were drawn from a wide supply area including Alice Springs and the overall quality of the yarding was good.

A good panel of buyers was present and operating. Several large single vendor lines were present and the yarding was dominated by steers and heifers.

Quality lines continued to sell to firm demand.

Prices eased in places for steers and heifers, especially the lightweight end of the market while cows continued to improve.

Light weight yearling steers under 280kg fell by 4c to 15c/kg. Medium weight yearling steers under 330kg to feed or background rose by 11c/kg. Medium weight yearling steers under 400kg to feed rose by 10c/kg. Heavy weight yearling steers over 400kg to feed fell by 21c/kg.

Medium weight yearling heifers under 330kg to feed fell by 12c/kg. Heavy weight yearling heifers over 400kg to feed rose by 33c/kg. Medium weight 3 score cows continued to improve up by 10c while heavy weight cows improved by 12c to 14c/kg.

Light weight yearling steers under 280kg to restockers sold to 312.2c to average 304c/kg. Medium weight yearling steers under 330kg to background or feed sold to 318.2c to average 305c/kg. Medium weight yearling steers under 400kg to feed sold to 329.2c to average 312c/kg. Heavy weight yearling steers over 400kg to feed sold to 322.2c to average 300c/kg.

Light weight yearling heifers under 280kg to restockers sold to 266.2c to average 246c/kg. The largest sample of medium weight yearling heifers under 330kg to restockers sold to 280c to average 259c/kg. Medium weight yearling heifers under 400kg sold to 299.2c to average 287c/kg. The limited number of heavy weight grown steers over 600kg sold to 322.2c to average 318c/kg.

The best of the grown heifers under 540kg made to 275.2c to average 268c/kg. Medium weight 3 score cows sold to 278.2c to average 256c/kg. Heavy weight 3 score cows sold to 274.2c to average 266c while the heavy weight 4 score cows made to 285.2c to average 282c/kg.

Heavy weight bulls sold to a top of 307.2c to average 302c/kg. Cow and calf units sold to a top of $1160.

Weaner steers under 220kg topped at 290c/kg and averaged 249c/kg, weaner steers in the 220-280kg range reached 316c/kg and averaged 273c/kg. Steers in the 280-350kg range reached 329c/kg and averaged 297c/kg, and steers in the 350-400kg range reached 322c/kg and averaged 300c/kg. Feeder steers in the 400-550kg range topping at 332c/kg and averaging 296c/kg.

Cows and calves hit $1,160/unit.

JS Grazing, Double J, Injune sold Angus steers to 322c/kg, reaching a top of $1,873 to average $1,073.

Livistona Grazing, Palm Vista, Taroom sold Droughtmaster cross steers to 322c/kg, reaching a top of $1,127 to average $906.

M & MT Bright, Karoola Park, Roma sold Angus cross steers to 321c/kg, reaching a top of $1,143 to average $989.

Heifers under 220kg topped at 236c/kg and averaged 187c/kg, while heifers in the 220-280kg range topped at 268c/kg and averaged 230c/kg. Heifers in the 280-350kg range topped at 292c/kg, averaging 254c/kg. Heifers in the 350-450kg range topped at 299c/kg, averaging 273c/kg.

Reynella Grazing Co, Reynella, Charleville sold Simmental heifers to 294c/kg, reaching a top of $1,228 to average $1,061.

Jessikah Brand, Glen Olive, Injune sold Angus cross heifers to 270c/kg, reaching a top of $892 to average $892.

J & D Brand, Glenolve, Roma sold Santa heifers to 270c/kg, reaching a top of $853 to average $847.

F & M Taylor, Lying Downs, Injune sold Charolais cross heifers to 248c/kg, reaching a top of $765 to average $711.

Cows in the 300-400kg range reached 260c/kg and averaged 193c/kg, while cows in the 400kg-500kg range reached 282c/kg and averaged 236c/kg. Cows over 500kg topped at 285c/kg, averaging 261c/kg.
