Cattle were drawn from a wide supply area, with several larger lines yarded from Western Queensland, including Mt Isa, Winton, Longreach and McKinlay, along with local lines.

A good panel of regular buyers was present and operating.

Steers dominated the yarding accounting for more than half the numbers.

The overall quality of the yarding was mixed.

Prices remained firm for quality cattle price variations reflective of quality.

A small sample of light weight yearling steers under 200kg to restockers, made to a top of 424.2c to average 389c/kg. A good number of light weight yearling steers under 280kg to restockers reached a top of 428.2c to average 386c/kg. Medium weight yearling steers to background sold to 424.2c to average 395c/kg. Medium weight steers under 400kg to feed made to a top of 380.2c to average 349c/kg.

Light weight yearling heifers under 280kg to restockers reached a top of 368.2c to average 350c/kg. A good sample of medium weight yearling heifers under 330kg to background made to 362.2c to average 306c/kg. Medium weight yearling heifers under 400kg to feed reached a top of 330.2c to average 294c/kg. Medium weight cows made to 262.2c to average 247c/kg, while heavy weight cows made to 265.2c to average 256c/kg.

A large number of light weight yearling bulls under 450kg were yarded, and the best of the light weight bulls to feed sold to a top of 352.2c to average 307c/kg. Cows and calves were also yarded with quality units selling to a top of $2040/cow and calf.

Weaner steers under 220kg topped at 424c/kg and averaged 350c/kg, weaner steers in the 220-280kg range reached 428c/kg and averaged 373c/kg. Steers in the 280- 350kg range reached 424c/kg and averaged 374c/kg, and steers in the 350-400kg range reached 380c/kg and averaged 341c/kg. Feeder steers in the 400-550kg range topping at 374c/kg and averaging 319c/kg. Cows and calves hit $2,040/unit.

Ashman Grazing, Escombe Downs, Winton sold Braford cross steers to 424c/kg, reaching a top of $1,239 to average $1,018. The Braford cross cows sold to 268c/kg, reaching a top of $1,521 to average $1,210.

Ogg & Co, Ayrshire Downs, Winton sold Santa cross steers to 420c/kg, reaching a top of $1,297 to average $1,139.

AW & E Forster, Belfield Station, Winton sold Charolais steers to 412c/kg, reaching a top of $1,654 to average $1,241.
