Yarding 8008 Change 5991

Cattle numbers rose markedly to 8,008 for the second Roma Store Sale of the year.

Cattle were mostly drawn from the local supply area with some numbers from further west also yarded. There were limited numbers of larger single vendor lines present.

The overall quality of the yarding was good and cattle presented well off the back of an improved season.

Steers accounted for almost half of the numbers with light weight steers yarded in limited numbers.

A large buying panel was present and included regular processors and feedlots along with interstate restockers.

Overall prices remained firm however the larger yarding saw prices ease in place and the limited numbers of light weight steers under 200kg resulted in a fall of 85c, after the previous sale’s record breaking prices.

Light weight steers under 280kg fell by 28c to 79c, while medium weight steers under 330kg fell by 25c to 32c, however the demand for feeder steers saw medium weight steers under 400kg to feed rise by 22c, and heavy weight steers over 400kg to feed gain by 15c.

Heifers also eased with the largest sample of light weight heifers under 280kg to restockers down by 8c/kg.

Cows saw improvements with medium weight cows up by 6c to 12c, and heavy weight cows improving by 7c to 15c/kg.
