Roma store sale 23 Apr 2019: Steers dominate smaller yarding

Cattle numbers fell dramatically down from 6,047 to 2,278 head at the Roma Store sale.

Cattle were drawn from the local supply area and a good panel of buyers was present and operating.

Steers dominated the yarding and the overall quality was mixed.

Prices mostly rose from last week due to limited numbers yarded, feedlot competition and restocker activity. Lightweight yearling steers under 280kg to restockers rose by 30c/kg. Lightweight yearling heifers under 280kg to restockers rose by 12c/kg. Medium weight 2 score cows fell by 4c, while the medium weight 3 score cows rose by 7c/kg. Heavy weight 3 score cows rose by 5c/kg.

Calves made to 300.2c to average 209.6c/kg. Lightweight yearling steers under 280kg to restockers sold to 326.2c, to average 293c/kg. Heavy weight yearling steers to feed sold to 286.2c to average 285c/kg.

Lightweight yearling heifers under 280kg to restockers made to 208.2c to average 200c/kg. Medium weight yearling heifers under 400kg to feed sold to 225.2c to average 204c/kg. Medium weight 2 score cows sold to 184.2c to average 166c while the medium weight 3 score cows sold to 214.2c to average 211c/kg. Heavy weight 3 score cows made to 231.2c to average 222c/kg.
