Roma store sale 30 Apr 2019: Prices mostly up after SW Qld rain

Large runs of quality young cattle were yarded and a larger panel of buyers was present, however not all were operating.

Prices improved off the back of feedlot and restocker competition.

Medium weight yearling steers dominated the yarding.

Prices mostly increased for quality steers and heifers after good recent rainfall in the supply area that has seen a marked reduction in numbers yarded in the last fortnight.

Light weight yearling steers under 280kg to restockers sold 17c/kg dearer. Medium weight yearling steers under 330kg to feed were 21c/kg more. Medium weight yearling steers under 400kg to feed increased by 33c/kg.

Medium weight yearling heifers under 280kg to restockers sold 34c/kg dearer. Medium weight yearling heifers under 330kg to process made 30c/kg more.

However, cows eased across the board, with medium weight 2 score cows decreasing by 4c, while medium weight 3 score cows decreased 12c/kg. Heavy weight 3 score cows eased 11c/kg. Calves sold to 316.2c to average 228c/kg.

The largest sample of light weight yearling steers under 280kg to restockers sold to 324.2c to average 311c/kg. Medium weight yearling steers under 330kg to feed sold to 318.2c to average 306c/kg. Medium weight yearling steers under 400kg to feed made to 329.2c to average 317c/kg.

Light weight yearling heifers under 280kg to restockers sold to 256.2c to average 234c/kg. Medium weight yearling heifers under 330kg to process made to 260c to average 226c/kg. Medium weight yearling heifers under 400kg to feed sold to 276.2c to average 257c/kg.

There were limited numbers of grown steers, grown heifers and bulls yarded. Medium weight 2 score cows sold to 179.2c to average 162c, while medium weight 3 score cows made to 210c to average 199c/kg. Heavy weight 3 score cows sold to 214.2c to average 211c/kg.
