Roma store sale 2 Oct 2018: Restocker demand stronger for light heifers

Cattle were drawn from a wide supply area and overall quality of the yarding was varied.

The usual panel of buyers was present and operating. Light weight yearling steers experienced only quality related price changes. Both the medium weight and heavy weight yearling steers to feed improved by 4c/kg.

Restocker demand was strong for quality light weight yearling heifers. A fair sample of light weight yearling steers to restockers sold to 318.2c to average 301c/kg. Medium weight yearling steers to feed sold to 290.2c to average 288c/kg. A good sample of heavy weight yearling steers to feed sold to 280.2c to average 278c/kg. Light weight yearling heifers to restockers averaged 243c selling to 260.2c/kg.

The small sample of grown steers sold to 279.2c and averaged 270c/kg. Medium weight 2 score cows sold to 227.2c to average 209c, while the bulk of the 3 score medium weight cows averaged 237c/kg.

Weaner steers under 220kg topped at 300c/kg and averaged 263c/kg, weaner steers in the 220-280kg range reached 318c/kg and averaged 266c/kg. Steers in the 280- 350kg range reached 296c/kg and averaged 265c/kg, and steers in the 350-400kg range reached 288c/kg and averaged 270c/kg. Feeder steers in the 400-550kg range topping at 284c/kg and averaging 273c/kg. Cows and calves hit $1,000/unit.
Rosehearty Graz, Ingle Downs, Winton sold Santa steers to 318c/kg, reaching a top of $898 to average $718. The Santa heifers sold to 260c/kg, reaching a top of $648 to average $551. The Santa cows sold to 250c/kg, reaching a top of $1,373 to average $1,001.
Alice Downs Pty Ltd & Elizabeth Holdings, Alice Downs, Blackall sold Santa steers to 300c/kg, reaching a top of $750 to average $580. Macam Investments, Bengarcia, Bollon sold Charolais cross steers to 290c/kg, reaching a top of $596 to average $528. The Charolais cross heifers sold to 268c/kg, reaching a top of $1,000 to average $610. The Charolais cross pregnant tested cows sold to 210c/kg, reaching a top of $1,114 to average $782.

Heifers in the 280-350kg range topped at 252c/kg, averaging 221c/kg. Heifers in the 350-450kg range topped at 268c/kg, averaging 239c/kg.
