Yarding: 3655 Change: -2470
A reduced yarding on last week’s number did not detract from the strong prices with a little over 3,500 head of cattle consigned through Roma Saleyards.
After good rain across the region, the market continued to kick with all the regular processors, feedlotters and backgrounders present and actively bidding across the board.
The bullock market continued its climb with several quality runs on offer.
The heifer job was firm to dearer.
Cattle were drawn from the local supply district including Roma, Injune and Morven as well as multiple lines of cattle from the west including Quilpie, Hungerford, Winton and Cunnamulla.
The Seawright family offloaded a run of Santa Gertrudis steers and a pen of Angus cross steers for an average of 538c/kg to weigh 418kg for a return of $2,250/hd.
Based out of Tingun, three pens of the steers fetched a straight 540c/kg weighing in at 420kg for a return of $2,268/hd.
The line was consigned through PJH Livestock, with agents Ed Cross and Steven Goodhew.
DT and CU Batt offloaded a run of 122 Santa Gertrudis steers fetched an average 475c/kg weighing in at 542kg for a return of $2,573/hd.
Hailing from Longreach, three pens of Santa Gertrudis Steers sold for a straight 486c/kg to weigh 563kg to make $2,702/hd.
Operating from ‘Dillulla’, the line was consigned through Elders.
Weemebah steers from Hungerford with GDL Quilpie agent Jack BiddleWeemabah offloaded a line of Shorthorn cross heifers, bulls and steer at today’s sale with an extensive 163 heifers up for grabs.
Operating out of ‘Moombidary’, Hungerford the heifer line made an average of 443c/kg weighing 206kg for a return of $911/hd.
Three pens of the Shorthorn cross heifers fetched a straight 494c/kg.

NLRS Commentary:
Some wonderful rain around the Maranoa region which reduced cattle numbers at Roma to 3,655 head. All the regular buyers attending and active. A quality yarding penned with western bred bullocks and feeders. The market considerably stronger for prime bullocks and feeders as well as cattle suitable to restockers.
Yearling steers 200 to 280kg realised 600c/kg to restockers. Yearling steers 280 to 330kg topping 598c to average 542c/kg to restockers. Yearling steers 330 to 400kg sold to 544c/kg to restockers. Yearling steers 400 to 480kg made to 540c/kg to Lot Feeders. Yearling steers over 480kg to 536c/kg to Lot Feeders.
Yearling heifers under 200kg topped 494c to average 465c/kg to restockers. Yearling heifers 200 to 280kg made to 390c to processors and 494c/kg to restockers. Yearling heifers 280 to 330kg sold from 430c to 488c/kg to Lot Feeders. Yearling heifers 330 to 400kg made from 400c to 486c/kg to Lot feeders. Yearling heifers 400 to 480kg topped 470c to average 468c/kg to Lot Feeders.
Grown steers 400 to 500kg made to 455c/kg to Lot Feeders. Grown steers 500 to 600kg to 514c to processors and 488c/kg to Lot Feeders. Bullocks over 600kg sold to 496c to processors and averaged 479c/kg. Grown heifers over 540 kg sold to 410c to Lot Feeders and 462c/kg to processors.
A quality yarding of prime western bred and local cows penned. The 3 score cows topped 418c with a line of locally bred Angus cross cows averaging 413c/kg. A pen of younger cows making to 421c/kg. Weaner steers under 200kg topped at 594c/kg and averaged 511c/kg, weaner steers in the 200-280kg range reached 600c/kg and averaged 519c/kg. Steers in the 280-330kg range reached 598c/kg and averaged 551c/kg, and steers in the 330-400kg range reached 544c/kg and averaged 514c/kg. Feeder steers in the 400-500kg range topped at 540c/kg and averaged 508c/kg.
