Roma store sale 16 March 2021: Demand firm with prices easing in places

Yarding 4027 Change -1774

Numbers fell to 4,027, down by 1,774 head at the Roma Store Sale, as rain falls across South West Queensland.

Cattle were drawn from a wide supply area including a large run from Alice Springs, and the overall quality of the yarding was mixed.

Steers again accounted for over half of the yarding.

A good buying panel including all regular processors, along with increased numbers of local and interstate restockers was present and operating despite the wet weather.

Demand remained firm with prices easing in places.

The limited number of light weight yearling steers under 200kg fell by 90c, while medium weight yearling steers under 330kg to feed fell by 7c/kg.

Heavy weight yearling steers to feed improved by 9c to 15c/kg. Light weight yearling heifers under 200kg fell by 14c, while light weight yearling heifers under 280kg to restockers improved by 17c/kg. Medium weight yearling heifers rose by 12c to 18c/kg. Medium and heavy weight 3 score cows remained unchanged from the previous week while medium weight cows to restockers or feed improved by 27c/kg. Heavy weight 4 score cows fell in price by 3c/kg.

Light weight yearling steers under 200kg sold to atop of 592.2c to average 540c/kg. A good sample of light weight yearling steers under 280kg to restockers made to 616.2c to average 529c/kg. Medium weight yearling steers under 330kg to restockers sold to 594.2c to average 477c/kg. Medium weight yearling steers under 400kg to restockers made to 466.2c to average 434c/kg. Heavy weight yearling steers over 400kg to feed reached a top of 447.2c to average 422c/kg. Light weight yearling heifers under 200kg to restockers reached a top of 560.2c to average 535c/kg.

Light weight yearling heifers under 280kg to restockers made to 554.2c to average 504c/kg. Medium weight yearling heifers under 330kg to restockers sold to 492.2c to average 455c/kg. Medium weight yearling heifers under 400kg to feed made to a top of 478.2c to average 444c/kg. The best of the heavy weight grown steers sold to 384.2c to average 358c/kg. The largest sample of grown heifers remained unchanged in price from the previous week, at a top of 338.2c to average 330c/kg. Medium weight 3 score cows sold to a top of 295c to average 292c, while medium weight store cows to restockers or feed reached a top of 313.2c to average 293c/kg. Heavy weight 3 score cows made to 298.2c to average 293c/kg. The heavy weight 4 score cows sold to 306.2c to average 302c/kg.

The best of the heavy weight bulls made to 317.2c to average 312c/kg.

Cows and calves reached a top of $2560/unit.

Weaner steers under 220kg topped at 616c/kg and averaged 533c/kg, weaner steers in the 220-280kg range reached 604c/kg and averaged 505c/kg. Steers in the 280- 350kg range reached 594c/kg and averaged 432c/kg, and steers in the 350-400kg range reached 440c/kg and averaged 389c/kg. Feeder steers in the 400-550kg range topping at 447c/kg and averaging 380c/kg. Cows and calves hit $2,560/unit.

Mulianna Past, Kiandra Stn, Quilpie sold Angus cross steers to 604c/kg, reaching a top of $1,671 to average $1,436. The Santa cross heifers sold to 560c/kg, reaching a top of $1,584 to average $1,188.

OR & SM Hams, Cooly, St George sold Droughtmaster cross steers to 594c/kg, reaching a top of $1,728 to average $1,520. The Droughtmaster cross heifers sold to 550c/kg, reaching a top of $1,287 to average $1,260.
