Roma store sale 29 June 2021: Numbers down in final sale of financial year

Numbers fell by 1,217, down to 3,359 at the last Roma Store Sale before the end of the financial year.

Cattle continue to be mostly drawn from the local supply area, with some numbers from Western Qld.

Steers accounted for almost two thirds of the yarding and the overall quality was mixed.

A good buying panel was present and operating, however one regular processor remained absent.

Feedlot activity saw prices hold firm for medium weight steers, while steers to restockers fell which is not truly reflective of the market, and can be attributed to the strong competition last week for a particular line of cattle.

Heifers fluctuated in places, but mostly improved while cows eased.

Light weight yearling steers under 280kg fell by 7c/kg. Medium weight yearling steers to feed under 400kg rose by 5c/kg. Light weight heifers under 280kg to restockers fell by 15c, while medium weight yearling heifers under 330kg to feed rose by 29c/kg. Heavy weight cows fell in price by 3c to 5c/kg.

The small sample of light weight yearling steers under 200kg sold to a top of 622c, to average 616c/kg. Yearling steers under 280kg to restockers made to 616.2c to average 563c/kg. Medium weight yearling steers under 330kg to restockers sold to 540.2c to average 509c/kg. Yearling steers under 400kg to restockers made to 548.2c to average 463c/kg. Heavy weight yearling steers over 400kg to feed reached a top of 454.2c to average 422c/kg.

Light weight yearling heifers under 200kg to restockers reached a top of 594.2c to average 593c/kg. Yearling heifers under 280kg to restockers made to 568.2c to average 531c/kg. Medium weight yearling heifers under 330kg to feed sold to 504.2c to average 492c/kg. Medium weight yearling heifers under 400kg to restockers reached a top of 476.2c to average 476c/kg. Heavy weight yearling heifers over 400kg to feed made to a top of 420.2c to average 420c/kg.

The best of the limited numbers of grown steers sold to 375.2c to average 368c/kg.

The largest sample of grown heifers sold to a top of 340.2c to average 331c/kg.

A number of PTIC cows sold on a dollars per head basis to a top of $1800/head.

Heavy weight cows were present in the largest numbers with the heavy weight 3 score cows reaching a top of 300.2c to average 288.

Weaner steers under 220kg topped at 622c/kg and averaged 575c/kg, weaner steers in the 220-280kg range reached 616c/kg and averaged 547c/kg. Steers in the 280-350kg range reached 540c/kg and averaged 491c/kg, and steers in the 350-400kg range reached 548c/kg and averaged 471c/kg. Feeder steers in the 400-550kg range topping at 454c/kg and averaging 399c/kg.

Cows and calves hit $2,650/unit.

BJ & PC Harrison, Bungaringa, Mitchell sold Hereford cross steers to 594c/kg, reaching a top of $1,450 to average $1,391.

DC Diamond Co, Mirri Mirri, Hannaford sold Angus cross steers to 580c/kg, reaching a top of $1,659 to average $1,567.

DJ & JF Goodman, Eulalie, Mungindi sold Angus cross steers to 568c/kg, reaching a top of $1,963 to average $1,753.

Newton Grazing P/L, Mona Vale, Injune sold Charolais cross steers to 568c/kg, reaching a top of $1,515 to average $1,436.
