Roma store sale 15 Jan 2019: Market opens with almost 10,000 head

Cattle were mostly drawn from across the local supply area and Western Queensland where dry conditions continue to prevail.

A good panel of buyers were present and operating. The yarding was dominated evenly by steers and heifers and quality was mixed reflective of the current season.

Overall prices fell when compared to last year, however demand was strong for better quality lines of cattle.

Top end prices for most categories of cattle remained at similar levels to last year’s sales, but tapered away quickly based on quality available.

Grown steers and heifers were present in small numbers. A large sample of yearling steers 200-280kg to restockers sold to 310c to average 288c, while a good sample of medium weight yearling steers to restockers sold to 315c to average 282c/kg.

A good sample of yearling steers to export feed made to 312.2c to average 286c/kg. A large sample of yearling heifers 200-280kg to restockers sold to 228.2c to average 209c/kg. A good sample of medium weight yearling heifers to feed sold to 267.2c to average 240c, while a fair sample of medium weight yearling heifers to restockers sold to 280.2c to average 261c/kg.

The largest sample of medium weight grown steers sold to 250.2c to average 248c, while the largest sample of grown heifers under 540kg sold to 232.2c to average 228c/kg.

Medium weight 2 score cows made to 205c to average 192c, while the medium weight 3 score cows sold to 220.2c and averaged 220.2c/kg. A small sample of heavy weight 3 score cows made to 227c to average 219c/kg. The best of the cow and calf units made to $860/unit.

Weaner steers under 220kg topped at 298c/kg and averaged 252c/kg, weaner steers in the 220-280kg range reached 302c/kg and averaged 266c/kg.

Steers in the 280- 350kg range reached 308c/kg and averaged 270c/kg, and steers in the 350-400kg range reached 312c/kg and averaged 269c/kg. Feeder steers in the 400-550kg range topping at 286c/kg and averaging 251c/kg. Cows and calves hit $860/unit.

Nugent Pastoral Co, Tambo Station, Tambo sold Santa steers to 312c/kg, reaching a top of $1,149 to average $1,109.

Whitton Cattle Co, Myrtleville, Injune sold Charolais steers to 308c/kg, reaching a top of $1,009 to average $984. The Charolais cross heifers sold to 280c/kg, reaching a top of $1,022 to average $961.

LJ & SG Hanna, Terrarara, Mitchell sold Santa steers to 300c/kg, reaching a top of $1,159 to average $1,014.

Camelock Rural, Torres Park, Augathella sold Santa cross steers to 298c/kg, reaching a top of $845 to average $690. The Santa heifers sold to 248c/kg, reaching a top of $673 to average $526.

Gwenbrook Farms Pastoral Co, Gwenbrook, Roma sold Charolais cross steers to 294c/kg, reaching a top of $884 to average $760. The Charolais heifers sold to 254c/kg, reaching a top of $746 to average $636.

Weldon Grazing, Glenlinden, Injune sold Cross breed steers to 292c/kg, reaching a top of $866 to average $866. IC Jackson, Elavirem, Injune sold Angus steers to 286c/kg, reaching a top of $1,354 to average $1,006.

TJ & JA Sorensen, Westerdale, Roma sold Charolais cross steers to 285c/kg, reaching a top of $1,173 to average $1,019.

CR & FJ Mars, Sardine Crk, Injune sold Droughtmaster cross steers to 284c/kg, reaching a top of $729 to average $699. The Droughtmaster cross heifers sold to 220c/kg, reaching a top of $543 to average $518.

Onley and Co Pty Ltd, Bulala, Roma sold Romagnola cross steers to 282c/kg, reaching a top of $821 to average $821. The Romagnola cross heifers sold to 228c/kg, reaching a top of $612 to average $612.

PJ & ME Brennan, For Far, Mitchell sold Charbray steers to 280c/kg, reaching a top of $1,080 to average $849.

BH Grazing, Borah, Mitchell sold Hereford cross steers to 280c/kg, reaching a top of $918 to average $911.

BJ & PC Harrison, Bungaringa, Mitchell sold Santa cross steers to 280c/kg, reaching a top of $880 to average $874.

Noogilla Cattle Co, Woodlands, Mitchell sold Simmental cross steers to 256c/kg, reaching a top of $1,306 to average $1,150.

Heifers under 220kg topped at 248c/kg and averaged 196c/kg, while heifers in the 220-280kg range topped at 252c/kg and averaged 206c/kg. Heifers in the 280-350kg range topped at 267c/kg, averaging 229c/kg. Heifers in the 350-450kg range topped at 280c/kg, averaging 242c/kg.

Ian Duff, Duffields, Roma sold Euro cross heifers to 260c/kg, reaching a top of $1,001 to average $1,001.

Cronulla Trust, Cronulla, Longreach sold Angus heifers to 248c/kg, reaching a top of $516 to average $439.

Cows in the 300-400kg range reached 230c/kg and averaged 167c/kg, while cows in the 400kg-500kg range reached 226c/kg and averaged 184c/kg. Cows over 500kg topped at 227c/kg, averaging 198c/kg.
