Yarding: 5618 Change: +3400
The yarding was up at the Roma Saleyards with a significantly larger offering this week, with just over 5,600 head penned.
All regular processors, feedlotters, and backgrounders, were in attendance and actively bidding on a quality yarding that featured early weaners and heavy feeders.
Despite the strong buyer presence, market prices softened in several categories compared to the previous sale.
The yarding featured cattle consigned primarily from the local supply district, including Injune, Wallumbilla, Surat, St George, Glenmorgan and Roma.
Cattle were also drawn from as far afield as Camooweal, Richmond and Cloncurry in north Queensland.
Yearling steers saw mixed results across weight categories.
Lighter steers from 200–280kg sold between 332c and 484c/kg, while the 280–330kg range saw the majority of well-finished pens make from 316c to a top of 484c/kg.
Steers weighing 330–400kg defied the general market trend, lifting nearly 10c/kg to reach 426c/kg.
Yearling heifers followed a similar pattern.
Lighter types from 200–280kg sold from 240c/kg for the plainer lines to 360c/kg for higher quality pens.
Heifers 280–330kg destined for processors made to 346c/kg, while those going to feed reached 372c/kg—up nearly 25c/kg from last sale.
The strong quality and a wide selection of cattle reaffirmed Roma Saleyards as the marketplace of choice.
