Roma store sale 21 July 2020: Demand strong for quality EU lines

GDL St George agent Anthony Hyland and Walker family, Rowly, Jenny, Briohny and Brogan with a line of Walker steers. The steers sold to 468c/kg, reaching a top of $1,574 to average $1,421.

CATTLE were mostly drawn from the local supply area, and the overall quality of the yarding was mixed.

A good buying panel was present and operating, however there were fewer Southern buyers in attendance this week.

The market continued to be quality driven with prices and competition remaining firm for sought after lines.

Demand was strong on a run of quality local EU yearling weaner steers and heifers along with restocker competition for store cows.

Steers and heifers mostly improved in price, with medium weight steers up by 16c to 20c, while medium weight heifers were up by 9c to 36c/kg.

Medium weight cows to restockers improved by 10c while the remainder of the cows eased up to 10c/kg.

Light weight yearling steers under 200kg to restockers made to 470.2c to average 450c/kg. Light weight yearling steers under 280kg to restockers made to 460.2c to average 434c/kg. Medium weight yearling steers under 330kg to restockers sold to 468.2c to average 437c/kg. Medium weight yearling steers under 400kg to feed sold to 462.2c to average 416c/kg. Heavy weight yearling steers over 400kg to feed made to a top of 405.2c to average 386c/kg.

Light weight yearling heifers under 200kg to restockers reached a top of 448.2c to average 423c/kg. A large sample of light weight yearling heifers under 280kg to restockers made to 465.2c to average 424c/kg. Medium weight yearling heifers under 330kg to restockers sold to 434.2c to average 407c/kg. Medium weight yearling heifers under 400kg to feed made to 390.2c to average 382c/kg. The largest sample of medium weight grown steers sold to 344.2c to average 333c/kg. The largest sample of grown heifers reached a top of 324.2c to average 306c/kg.

Medium weight 3 score cows sold to a top of 279.2c to average 267c, while heavy weight 3 score cows made to 277.2c to average 270c/kg. Heavy weight 4 score cows were again in limited numbers and reached a top of 288.2c to average 283c/kg. The largest sample of heavy weight bulls made to 323.2c to average 308c/kg.

Weaner steers under 220kg topped at 470c/kg and averaged 432c/kg, weaner steers in the 220-280kg range reached 454c/kg and averaged 427c/kg. Steers in the 280- 350kg range reached 468c/kg and averaged 417c/kg, and steers in the 350-400kg range reached 430c/kg and averaged 388c/kg. Feeder steers in the 400-550kg range topping at 405c/kg and averaging 361c/kg. Cows and calves hit $2,120/unit.
