Roma store sale 13 April 2021: Steers dominate larger yarding

At the Roma sore sale on April 7 Ray White Roma agent Jack Clanchy was pictured with a pen of Barbara Plains Grazing heifers. The heifers sold to 480c/kg, reaching a top of $1,703 to average $1,447. The steers sold to 580c/kg, reaching a top of $1,922 to average $1,731.

Yarding 6071 Change 2,826

Cattle were drawn from a wide supply area and the quality of the yarding was good with most cattle well presented and in forward condition.

A larger buying panel was present and operating and included feedlots, processors and restockers.

Steers accounted for over half of the yarding with a larger number of cows and calves also present.

Demand remained strong across the yarding with price fluctuation reflective of quality variations.

Light weight steers under 200kg remained in limited supply and improved by 15c/kg.

Light weight yearling steers under 280kg to feed or background improved by 38c/kg.

Medium weight steers under 330kg fell by 4c to 7c and medium weight yearling steers under 400kg fell by 6c to 21c/kg. The larger number of heavy weight yearling steers to feed rose by 1c/kg.

A larger sample of light weight yearling heifers under 200kg to restockers improved by 132c, while the largest sample of light weight yearling heifers under 280kg to restockers remain unchanged in price. Medium weight yearling heifers under 330kg to restockers fell by 1c, while medium weight yearling heifers under 400kg to feed improved by 20c/kg. Heavy weight yearling heifers over 400kg improved by 4c/kg.

Cows experienced a fall across the board with medium weight cows down by 2c to 5c, and heavy weight cows down by 1c to 7c/kg.

The limited numbers of light weight yearling steers under 200kg sold to a top of 698.2c to average 639c/kg. A good sample of light weight yearling steers under 280kg to feed or background made to 694.2c to average 605c/kg. Medium weight yearling steers under 330kg to restockers sold to 596.2c to average 533c/kg. Medium weight yearling steers under 400kg to restockers made to 546.2c to average 470c, while heavy weight yearling steers over 400kg to feed reached a top of 464.2c to average 428c/kg.

Light weight yearling heifers under 200kg to restockers reached a top of 602.2c to average 546c/kg. Light weight yearling heifers under 280kg to restockers made to 614.2c to average 527c/kg. Medium weight yearling heifers under 330kg to restockers sold to 530.2c to average 497c/kg. Medium weight yearling heifers under 400kg to feed reached a top of 480.2c to average 461c/kg. Heavy weight yearling heifers over 400kg to feed made to a top of 388.2c to average 388c/kg.

The largest sample of grown steers sold to 371.2c to average 367c/kg.

The best of the grown heifers sold to a top of 360.2c to average 360c/kg.

Medium weight PTIC cows to restockers sold to 303.2c to average 303c/kg. Heavy weight 3 score cows made to 299.2c to average 290c, while heavy weight 4 score cows reached a top of 307.2c to average 304c/kg. The best of the heavy weight bulls to processors made to 318.2c to average 309c/kg. Cows and calves reached a top of $2675/unit.

Weaner steers under 220kg topped at 698c/kg and averaged 588c/kg, weaner steers in the 220-280kg range reached 668c/kg and averaged 576c/kg. Steers in the 280-350kg range reached 630c/kg and averaged 518c/kg, and steers in the 350-400kg range reached 596c/kg and averaged 460c/kg. Feeder steers in the 400-550kg range topping at 480c/kg and averaging 406c/kg.
Cows and calves hit $2,675/unit.
