Roma store sale 20 Nov 2018: Demand for quality lines remains strong

Cattle numbers fell by 203 head to 6,460 at the Roma Store Sale following recent isolated rainfall in the supply area.

Cattle were drawn from across Queensland and a large panel of buyers was present and operating.

The yarding was again dominated by younger cattle and quality was mixed however, demand for the better quality lines of cattle remained strong. Light weight yearling steers to restockers 200-280kg rose by 10c/kg. Medium weight yearling steers to domestic feed rose by 3c, but medium weight yearling steers to restockers fell 3c to 4c/kg. Heavy weight yearling steers to feed fell 9c to 11c/kg. Light weight yearling heifers to restockers remained unchanged, while a large sample of light weight yearling heifers 200-280kg to restockers fell by 4c/kg. Grown steers and heifers were present in small numbers. Light weight cows to restockers rose by 11c, while medium weight cows to slaughter fell by 2c/kg.

A large sample of yearling steers 200-280kg to restockers sold to 332.2c to average 318c/kg. A fair sample of medium weight yearling steers to domestic feed sold to 318.2c to average 314c/kg. A good sample of medium weight yearling steers to feed sold to 322.2c to average 311c/kg. Heavy weight yearling steers to feed made to 322.2c to average 317c/kg.

Light weight yearling heifers returning to the paddock sold to 262.2c to average 255c/kg.

A large sample of yearling heifers 200-280kg to restockers sold to 302.2c to average 264c/kg. Medium weight yearling heifers to domestic feed sold to 288.2c to average 266c/kg. Heavy grown steers to export slaughter sold to 307.2c, while the bullock portion made to 315.2c/kg.

Heavy weight 2 score cows sold to 229.2c to average 216c, while the medium weight 3 score cows sold to 250.2c to average 240c/kg. A small sample of heavy weight 3 score cows sold to 256.2c to average 252c/kg. Heavy weight bulls sold to a top of 270.2c to average 256c/kg.

Weaner steers under 220kg topped at 320c/kg and averaged 290c/kg, weaner steers in the 220-280kg range reached 332c/kg and averaged 300c/kg. Steers in the 280- 350kg range reached 321c/kg and averaged 299c/kg, and steers in the 350-400kg range reached 322c/kg and averaged 309c/kg.

Feeder steers in the 400-550kg range topping at 322c/kg and averaging 310c/kg. Cows and calves hit $1,170/unit.
