Roma store sale 20 July: Numbers lift with local weaner lines

Vendors Kick and James Mars and GDL agent James Bensley with a pen of Kick, Fiona Mars & Family steers. The steers sold to 678c/kg, reaching a top of $1,904 to average $1,517.

 

Yarding 8782 Change 1871

Numbers continue to rise at the Roma Store Sale, up by 1,871 head to see a total yarding of 8,782 head.

Cattle were mostly drawn from the local supply area and again included good runs of quality local single vendor weaner lines, and steers accounted for over half the yarding.

A large buying panel was present and operating, with all regular processors in attendance and operating.

Prices remained firm for steers, eased in places for heifers and improved for cows.

Light weight yearling steers to restockers improved by 3c to 38c/kg. Medium weight yearling steers under 330kg to restockers improved by 8c while steers under 400kg to feed remained unchanged.

Light weight yearling heifers under 280kg to restockers improved by 6c, while medium weight yearling heifers under 400kg and heavy weight yearling heifers over 400kg to feed remained unchanged. Heavy weight cows improved by 3c to 10c/kg.

The small sample of light weight yearling steers under 200kg sold to a top of 670.2c to average 653c/kg. Light weight yearling steers under 280kg to restockers were the largest sample for the day and made to 678.2c to average 608c/kg. Medium weight yearling steers under 330kg to restockers sold to 624.2c to average 572c/kg. Yearling steers under 400kg to restockers made to 568.2c to average 536c/kg. Heavy weight yearling steers over 400kg to feed reached a top of 540.2c to average 462c/kg.

Light weight yearling heifers under 200kg to restockers reached a top of 595.2c to average 538c/kg. Light weight yearling heifers under 280kg to restockers made to 650.2c to average 563c/kg. Medium weight yearling heifers under 330kg to restockers sold to 650.2c to average 536c/kg. Yearling heifers under 400kg to feed reached a top of 522.2c to average 490c/kg. Heavy weight yearling heifers over 400kg to feed made to a top of 468.2c to average 441c/kg.

The best of the grown steers made to 440.2c to average 404.2c/kg. The best of the grown heifers sold to a top of 350.2c to average 335c/kg.

A large run of Angus red tag PTIC cows sold on a dollars per head basis to a top of $2625/head.

Heavy weight 3 score cows reached a top of 320.2c to average 315c/kg. Heavy weight 4 score prime cows made to a top of 337.2c to average 329c/kg.

Heavy weight bulls reached a top of 360.2c to average 355c/kg.

There was an increase in the number of cows and calves yarded and they reached a top of $2400/unit.
