Roma store sale 27 July: Quality mixed in 6284 head yarding

Yarding 6284 Change -2498

Numbers eased at the Roma Store Sale, down by 2,498 to a total yarding of 6,284 head.

Cattle were mostly drawn from the local supply area but included numbers from West and North Western Queensland.

The overall quality was mixed when compared to recent yardings.

Buyer numbers remained strong with a large buying panel present and operating, including all regular processors.

Despite the sizable yarding, competition remained firm for quality cattle with price fluctuations reflective of quality variations.

Light weight steers fell by 16c to 40c, while medium weight steers to feed rose by 3c to 4c. Medium weight steers under 280kg to restockers fell by 3c/kg. Heavy weight yearling steers rose by 26c/kg. Light weight yearling heifers to restockers rose by 1c to 16c/kg. Medium weight yearling heifers under 400kg to feed fell by 18c, but medium weight yearling heifers under 400kg to restockers rose by 48c/kg. Cows saw good gains, with medium weight cows up by 1c to 5c, and heavy weight cows up by 6c to 8c/kg.

Light weight yearling steers under 200kg sold to a top of 676.2c to average 613c/kg. Yearling steers under 280kg to restockers made to 650.2c to average 591c/kg. Medium weight yearling steers under 330kg to restockers sold to 614.2c to0 average 569c/kg. Medium weight yearling steers under 400kg to feed made to 564.2c to average 530c/kg. Heavy weight yearling steers over 400kg to feed reached a top of 526.2c to average 488c/kg.

Light weight yearling heifers under 200kg to restockers reached a top of 632.2c to average 554c/kg. Yearling heifers under 280kg to restockers made to 618.2c to average 564c/kg. Medium weight yearling heifers under 330kg to restockers sold to 556.2c to average 468 c/kg. Yearling heifers under 400kg to restockers reached a top of 520.2c to average 499c/kg. Heavy weight yearling heifers over 400kg to restockers made to a top of 500.2c to average 477c/kg. The largest sample of grown steers made to 398.2c to average 385c/kg.

The best of the grown heifers sold to a top of 388.2c to average 365c/kg.

A large run of Northern PTIC heifers sold on a dollars per head basis to a top of $2050/head.

Heavy weight 3 score cows reached a top of 329.2c to average 321c/kg. Heavy weight 4 score prime cows made to a top of 345.2c to average 338c/kg.

Heavy weight bulls reached a top of 355.2c to average 336c/kg.

Cows and calves were yarded in larger numbers and reached a top of $2550/unit.
