Roma sale 13 Feb 2024: Market softer for most categories

Cattle were drawn from a wide supply area including Longreach Quilpie Wyandra Cunnamulla and the local supply district.

All the regular processors feedlotters and backgrounders operating.

The market was softer for all descriptions with the exception of the bull category.

Yearling steers 200 to 280kg topped at 524c to average 470c/kg. Yearling steers 280 to 330kg to restockers averaged 418c topping at 516c/kg. Yearling steers 330 to 400kg to feed made to 426c with the 400 to 480kg steers selling to 378c and averaged 372c/kg. Yearling steers over 480kg sold well to 374c/kg.

Light weight yearling under 200kg topped at 300c with the 200 to 280kg also selling to 300c to average 277c/kg. Yearling heifers 280 to 330kg made from 245c to 330c average 290c/kg. Yearling heifers 330 to 400kg lost the most ground selling from 230c to 308c/kg. Yearling heifers 400 to 480kg topped 314c to average 284c/kg to feed. Over 480kg to feed sold to 330kg.

Grown steers 400 to 500kg sold to 338c/kg to feed with the 500 to 600kg sold to 297c/kg to processor’s. Grown steers over 600kg topped at 308c/kg. Grown heifers over 540kg made to 282c/kg. The 2 score cows 400 to 520kg sold from 210c to 259c/kg. The 3 score cows over 520kg made to 268c/kg.

The best of the heavy weight bulls sold to 300c/kg.

Weaner steers under 200kg topped at 470c/kg and averaged 362c/kg, weaner steers in the 200-280kg range reached 524c/kg and averaged 435c/kg. Steers in the 280-330kg range reached 516c/kg and averaged 401c/kg, and steers in the 330-400kg range reached 426c/kg and averaged 377c/kg. Feeder steers in the 400-500kg range topped at 380c/kg and averaged 344c/kg.

RK & CJ Austin, Kendall Park, Hannaford sold Simmental steers to 516c/kg, reaching a top of $1,525 to average $1,445.  The Simmental heifers sold to 336c/kg, reaching a top of $919 to average $877.

Northern Growers Pty Ltd, Roma sold Angus cross steers to 502c/kg, reaching a top of $1,355 to average $1,304.  The Angus cross heifers sold to 348c/kg, reaching a top of $926 to average $926.

CH & RA Bradshaw, Eldorado, Jackson sold Angus steers to 500c/kg, reaching a top of $1,160 to average $1,117.

MR Graham & KJ Moloney Partnership, Kandarra, Wallumbilla sold Brangus steers to 492c/kg, reaching a top of $1,323 to average $1,277.

M & NE McKay, Macwood, St George sold Santa Gertrudis cross steers to 490c/kg, reaching a top of $1,195 to average $1,163.  The Santa gertrudis cross heifers sold to 342c/kg, reaching a top of $784 to average $740.

Barbara Plains Grazing, Barbara Plains, Wyandra sold Simbrah steers to 478c/kg, reaching a top of $1,420 to average $1,262.

David Geary, Wilga Valley, Miles sold Angus cross steers sold to 474c/kg, reaching a top of $1,496 to average $1,288.

A Swan, Springtime, Wallumbilla sold Angus cows to 250c/kg, reaching a top of $1,688 to average $1,688.
