Roma sale 19 Oct 2021: Light weight steers to record 756.2c/kg

Pictured at the Roma Store Sale on October 5, Ray White Roma agent AJ Riley was pictured with this pen of The Estate of TJ Boyle heifers. The heifers sold to 684c/kg, reaching a top of $1,908 to average $1,602. The steers sold to 731c/kg, reaching a top of $1,795 to average $1,536.

Yarding 5111 Change -37

Numbers fell slightly down by 37 head to see a total yarding of 5,111 at the Roma Store Sale.

Steers continue to dominate the yarding, with cattle drawn from a wide supply area, including numbers from Western and North-Western Queensland.

The overall quality of the yarding was mixed with an increase in numbers of grown steers and bullocks.

A good buying panel was present and operating, including all regular processors.

The market remained strong mostly improving across all categories with buyer competition strong on quality cattle.

A new top price record for steers at Roma was set with light weight steers reaching 756.2c/kg and selling over the $7 mark repeatedly, while prime cows to processors also broke the $4 barrier.

Light weight steers improved by 2c to 61c/kg. Medium weight yearling steers to feed improved by 55c to 60c/kg. Heavy weight steers rose by 2c to 12c/kg. Light weight heifers under 280kg to feed or paddock improved by 15c to 63c, while medium weight heifers to feed improved by 27c to 59c/kg. Heavy weight cows improved by 16c to 19c/kg.

Light weight yearling steers under 200kg sold to a top of 756.2c to average 689c/kg. Yearling steers under 280kg to restockers made to 736.2c to average 658c/kg. Medium weight yearling steers under 330kg to restockers sold to 662.2c to average 605c/kg. Yearling steers under 400kg to feed made to a top of 662.2c to average 569c/kg. Heavy weight yearling steers over 400kg to feed reached a top of 516.2c to average 484c/kg.

Light weight yearling heifers under 200kg to restockers reached a top of 654.2c to average 583c/kg. Yearling heifers under 280kg to restockers also made to 644.2c to average 581c/kg. Medium weight yearling heifers under 330kg to restockers sold to 618.2c to average 571c/kg. Yearling heifers under 400kg to feed reached a top of 534.2c to average 489c/kg.

The best of the grown steers made to 474.2c to average 454c/kg.

The best of the grown heifers sold to a top of 407.2c to average 407c/kg.

Lines of PTIC red tag cows and grown heifers sold at open auction to a top of $2140/head.

Heavy weight 3 score cows reached a top of 389.2c to average 376c/kg.

Heavy weight 4 score prime cows made to a top of 402.2c to average 396/kg.

Light weight bulls to restockers sold to a top of 706.2c to average 578c/kg.

The best of the heavy weight bulls reached a top of 366.2c to average 353c/kg.

Cows and calves made to a top of $2900/unit.

Steers in the 280- 350kg range reached 662c/kg and averaged 587c/kg, and steers in the 350-400kg range reached 598c/kg and averaged 514c/kg. Feeder steers in the 400-550kg range topping at 550c/kg and averaging 467c/kg. Cows and calves hit $2,900/unit.
