Roma store sale 9 July 2019: Angus yearling weaners feature

A large panel of buyers was present however not all processors were operating. Cattle were drawn mostly from the local supply area.

The yarding featured the annual sale of sought after Angus of yearling weaners.

Steers and heifers dominated the yarding and the overall quality was good. Good quality cows were also present in numbers.

The market improved off the back of the featured lines and feedlot and restocker competition was strong.

Lightweight yearling steers under 280kg to rose by 14c to 23c/kg. Lightweight yearling steers under 330kg rose by 12c to 26c/kg. Medium weight yearling steers under 400kg rose by 4c to 26c/kg. Heavy weight yearling feeder steers rose by 8c/kg.

A large sample of lightweight yearling heifers under 280kg to restockers rose by 21c/kg. Medium weight yearling heifers under 330kg to restockers rose by 26c/kg. Medium weight yearling heifers under 400kg to feed rose by 14c while the heavy weight yearling heifers over 400kg rose by 26c/kg. Medium weight 2 score cows rose by 4c and the medium weight 3 score cows rose by 15c/kg. Heavy weight 3 score cows rose by 9c/kg.

The largest sample of lightweight yearling steers under 280kg sold to 330.2c to average 304c/kg.

Quality medium weight yearling steers under 330kg to feed or background 338.2c to average 321c/kg.

The best of the medium weight yearling steers under 400kg to feed sold to 332.2c to average 306c while heavy weight yearling steers over 400kg to feed sold to 313.2c to average 298c/kg. Quality lightweight yearling heifers under 280kg to restockers sold to 300.2c to average 258c/kg. Medium weight yearling heifers under 330kg to restockers made to 298.3c to average 263c/kg. Medium weight yearling heifers under 400kg to feed sold to a top of 278.2c to average 262c/kg. A good sample of medium weight grown steers sold to 295.2c to average 280c/kg.

A large sample of grown heifers made to 270c to average 229c/kg. Medium weight 2 score cows sold to 199.2c to average 185c while the medium weight 3 score cows sold to 234.2c to average 217c/kg. Heavy weight 3 score cows made to a top of 240.2c to average 221c/kg.

The best of the heavy weight bulls made to 265.2c to average 238c/kg. A large run of cows with sizable calves at foot made to $970/unit.

Weaner steers under 220kg topped at 310c/kg and averaged 281c/kg, weaner steers in the 220-280kg range reached 330c/kg and averaged 296c/kg. Steers in the 280- 350kg range reached 338c/kg and averaged 298c/kg, and steers in the 350-400kg range reached 332c/kg and averaged 302c/kg.

Feeder steers in the 400-550kg range topping at 312c/kg and averaging 285c/kg. Cows and calves hit $970/unit.
