Roma store sale 11 May 2021: Northern restockers compete for larger yarding

Elders Mitchell agent Dave Phillips and vendors Sandra and Rob Cornish with Cornish Grazing Pty Ltd heifers. The heifers sold to 442c/kg, reaching a top of $1,680 to average $1,650. The steers sold to 446c/kg, reaching a top of $1,968 to average $1,762.

Around two thirds of the yarding was drawn from Western and North Western Queensland.

The overall quality of the yarding was mixed with a good proportion of cattle presented in store condition.

A larger buying panel was present and operating and included all regular processors, which saw an increase in restocker competition with northern restockers swelling the buying panel numbers.

Steers accounted for over half of the yarding which again included a large single vendor run of PTIC heifers, along with PTIC cows, which sold to very strong restocker demand. Competition remained firm, with prices improving across the steers portion from the previous week, while heifers saw improvements in places.

Cows to processors eased however solid restocker demand led to improvements for cows returning to the paddock.

Light weight steers improved by 12c to 31c. The lead of the medium weight steers to feed improved by 6c to 11c. Heavy weight steers improved by 6c to 12c.

Light weight heifers to restockers improved by 7c to 42c, while medium weight yearling heifers under 330kg to feed fell by 19c/kg. Meduim weight heifers under 400kg to feed improved by 10c, with heavy weight heifers to feed also improving, up y 13c/kg. Heavy weight cows fell in price by 2c to 3c/kg.

Light weight yearling steers under 200kg were again few in numbers, and sold to a top of 618.2c to average 607c/kg. A good sample of light weight yearling steers under 280kg to restockers made to 604.2c to average 558c/kg. Medium weight yearling steers under 330kg to restockers sold to 578.2c to average 515c/kg. Medium weight yearling steers under 400kg to feed made to 530.2c to average 468c, while heavy weight yearling steers over 400kg to feed reached a top of 500.2c to average 411c/kg. Light weight yearling heifers under 200kg to restockers reached a top of 581.2c to average 524c/kg.

Light weight yearling heifers under 280kg to restockers made to 586.2c to average 513c/kg. Medium weight yearling heifers under 330kg to restockers sold to 499.2c to average 471c/kg. Medium weight yearling heifers under 400kg to feed reached a top of 477.2c to average 444c/kg. Heavy weight yearling heifers to feed made to a top of 412.2c to average 412c/kg.

The best of the grown steers sold to 381.2c to average 381c/kg. The a good sample of grown heifers sold to a top of 366.2c to average 365 c/kg. Restocker demand remained strong for another run of a large single vendor line of PTIC grown yearling heifers which sold on a dollars per head basis to a top of $2500/head. Restocker competition was also strong for PTIC cows with one run of PTIC cows sold on a dollars per head basis to a top of $2200/head, while a second line of heavy weight PTIC cows sold to a top of $350.2c, to average 328c/kg.

Processor demand remained firm for cows as medium weight 3 scores sold to 300.2c to average 295c/kg. Heavy weight 3 score cows made to 300.2c to average 294c/kg. Heavy weight 4 score cows reached a top of 311.2c to average 306c/kg.

Light weight bulls to restockers sold to a top of 600.2c to average 526c/kg. The best of the heavy weight bulls made to 326.2c to average 326c/kg.

Cows and calves reached a top of $2500/unit.

Pendine Past Co, Pendine Station, Barcaldine sold Santa cross cows to 331c/kg, reaching a top of $1,634 to average $1,446.
