Roma sale 11 July: Yarding lifts by 4702

Yarding 7665 Change +4702

Agents at Roma penned 7665 cattle for yesterday’s weekly store sale – an increase of 4702 head.

Cattle were drawn from far western QLD, NSW with the majority from the local supply area which included excellent runs of well bred yearling steers and heifers.

All the regular feeder and restocker buyers attended however not all processors operated. Light weight yearling steers struggled to maintain last weeks rates reducing by 15c in places however the medium weight steers to feed improved in price by 7c to 14c/kg.

Yearling heifers to background remained firm with the heavier lines to feed slightly dearer.

Heavy cows to processors could not maintain last weeks rates and reduced in price by 12c to 13c/kg with heavy bulls improving in price by 9c/kg.

Yearling steers in the 200-280kg range to restockers made 378c to average 348c/kg.

Yearling steers over 280kg sold to 372c and averaged 340c/kg.

Yearling steer to feed for the domestic market made 352c to average 337c with restockers paying to 348c/kg. Heavy yearling steers to feed made 356c to averaged 334c/kg.

Light weight yearling heifers to restockers sold to 350c/kg.

Yearling heifers in the 200-280kg range to background made 286c to average 261c/kg. Yearling heifers over 280kg to restockers made 290c to average 263c/kg.

Heavy yearling heifers to feed made 292c to average 264c/kg.

Grown steers to processors made 304c to average 293c/kg. Grown heifers to processors made 274c to average 252c/kg.

Light weight cows to processors made 178c to average 159c/kg. Heavy score 2 cows made 198c to average 180c and to feeder operators at 225c/kg. Score 3 and 4 cows averaged 203c to 216c and sold to 221c/kg. Light weight bulls to restockers  made 324c to average 280c/kg. Heavy bulls to processors made 273c to average 258c/kg.

Weaner steers under 200kg topped at 370c/kg and averaged 320c/kg, weaner steers in the 200-280kg range reached 378c/kg and averaged 345c/kg. Steers in the 280-330kg range reached 362c/kg and averaged 333c/kg, and steers in the 330-400kg range reached 356c/kg and averaged 328c/kg. Feeder steers in the 400-500kg range topped at 340c/kg and averaged 324c/kg.

RM & MG Hayes, Larapinta, Jackson sold Angus cross steers to 372c/kg, reaching a top of $1,340 to average $926. The Santa Gertrudis cross heifers sold to 286c/kg, reaching a top of $752 to average $649.

Cecil James Russell, Ingledoon, Augathella sold Santa Gertrudis cross steers to 372c/kg, reaching a top of $1,149 to average $944. The Santa Gertrudis heifers sold to 276c/kg, reaching a top of $730 to average $611.

McNicholl Family Trust, Arklow, Dulacca sold Angus cross steers to 364c/kg, reaching a top of $1,088 to average $1,005. The Charolais cross heifers sold to 280c/kg, reaching a top of $814 to average $731.
