Roma sale 25 Jan 2022: Numbers ease to 3857

GDL Roma Agent, Nick Shorten, with a pen of LA & SF Curtis Steers. The Speckle Park Cross Steers of “Tuttawa,” Lightning Ridge, sold for 722.2c/kg, at 280kg, making $2022.16/head. The pen of Speckle Park Cross Heifers sold for 720.2c/kg, at 265.4kg, making $1911.10/head.

Yarding 3857 Change -1515

Numbers fell to 3,857 at the Roma Store Sale, down by 1,515 head.

Cattle were predominantly drawn from the local supply area, and the overall quality was mixed but included quality local lines in a yarding dominated by steers.

A good competitive buying panel of restockers and lot feeders was operating, and all regular processors were present, however not all were operating.

Prices continued to ease for steers and most heifers, however cows improved with strong restocker competition, and more regular processors operating.

Light weight steers eased by 6c to 22c, while quality medium weight steers eased by 7c to 74c/kg.

Medium weight heifers fell by 48c to 95c/kg.

However medium weight prime cows improved by 14c, while heavy weight prime cows improved by 25c/kg.

Light weight yearling steers under 200kg made to a top of 826.2c to average 702c/kg. Yearling steers under 280kg to restockers reached 838.2c to average 740c/kg. Medium weight yearling steers under 330kg to restockers sold to 740.2c to average 668c/kg. Yearling steers under 400kg to restockers made to 682.2c to average 617c/kg. Heavy weight yearling steers to restockers reached a top of 666.2c to average 590c/kg.

Light weight yearling heifers under 200kg to reached a top of 778.2c to average 625c/kg. Yearling heifers under 280kg to restockers made to 726.2c to average 649c/kg. Medium weight yearling heifers under 330kg to restockers sold to 654.2c to average 591c/kg. Yearling heifers under 400kg to restockers reached a top of 596.2c to average 546c/kg. Heavy weight heifers to feed made to a top of 548.2c to average 498c/kg.

The best of the limited number of grown steers made to 498.2c to average 470c/kg. Grown heifers were also in short supply, selling to a top of 402.2 to average 386c/kg.

Cows were yarded in limited numbers which saw medium weight prime cows to processors sell to 370.2c to average 347c/kg. The heavy weight prime cows reached a top of 375.2c to average 364c/kg. A pen of red tag PTIC cows to restockers sold to 420.2c/kg.

The best of the heavy weight bulls reached a top of 374.2c to average 329c/kg.

Cows and calves made to $3000/unit.
