Roma store sale 11 Dec 2018: Western drafts fill final sale of year

Yarding 6357 Change -2543

Numbers at the Roma Sale eased with a yarding of 6,357 presented, 2543 head less than last week. This is the last sale at Roma for 2018.

Cattle were drawn from local areas along with several drafts from far western Queensland and one draft from South Australia, these drafts amounted to over 1000 head.

Condition and quality varied throughout the day with some very light conditioned and poor quality cattle on offer. However, well-bred lines sold strongly to a full field of buyers, which included a number of local restockers. The better bred pens of light yearling steers sold to 324c averaging 308c, with medium and heavy weights making to 326c on occasions to average 312c to 315c/kg. Yearling heifers from better bred herds mostly returned averages from 266c to 270c, with plainer lines averaging 230c to 240c/kg. Grown steers to feed made a top of 314c, to average 309c/kg. Grown steers to processors topped at 285c, to average 267c/kg. Grown heifers sold to slaughter to 276c, averaging 267c/kg.

Light 2 score cows eased selling to 218c, to average 182c/kg. Heavy 4 score cows made to 237c and averaged 230c/kg. Heavy bulls to slaughter averaged 238c, with the best making 265c/kg. A large line-up of generally light conditioned cows with young calves at foot made from $1,020 to $1,380/unit, the best lines were young breeder quality cows.

Weaner steers under 220kg topped at 324c/kg and averaged 287c/kg, weaner steers in the 220-280kg range reached 324c/kg and averaged 298c/kg. Steers in the 280- 350kg range reached 320c/kg and averaged 297c/kg, and steers in the 350-400kg range reached 320c/kg and averaged 305c/kg. Feeder steers in the 400-550kg range topping at 326c/kg and averaging 293c/kg. Cows and calves hit $1,380/unit.

Glen Valley Pastoral Co, Glen Valley, Jundah sold Santa steers to 324c/kg, reaching a top of $765 to average $704. The Santa heifers sold to 282c/kg, reaching a top of $640 to average $581.

Sheales P/C, Mahrigong, Winton sold Santa cross steers to 322c/kg, reaching a top of $1,080 to average $691.

Clark Bros & Tait, Powella, Aramac sold Santa steers to 322c/kg, reaching a top of $723 to average $478. The Santa heifers sold to 288c/kg, reaching a top of $1,043 to average $551.

DW & JL Sullivan, Studley, Roma sold Angus cross steers to 320c/kg, reaching a top of $1,477 to average $1,457.

Nugent Pastoral Co, Tambo Station, Tambo sold Santa heifers to 290c/kg, reaching a top of $860 to average $770.

CJ & CM Coomber, Jireh Park, Roma sold Charolais cross heifers to 274c/kg, reaching a top of $869 to average $752.

S & R White Family Trust, Mt Saltbush, Roma sold Angus cross heifers to 265c/kg, reaching a top of $1,184 to average $917.

Cows in the 300-400kg range reached 232c/kg and averaged 165c/kg, while cows in the 400kg-500kg range reached 233c/kg and averaged 195c/kg. Cows over 500kg topped at 237c/kg, averaging 224c/kg.

Belfast Investments, Violet Station, Winton sold Brahman cross cows to 236c/kg, reaching a top of $1,386 to average $1,142.

Rosehearty Grazing, Merago, Longreach sold Santa cows and calves reaching a top of $1,380 to average $1,315.
