Roma store sale 10 Aug 2021: Competition strong for 6529 head yarding

The Watkins and Company selling team with a line of record breaking heifers from Shaw Grazing at Roma last week, which sold for 894c/kg.

Cattle were mostly drawn from the local supply area but included good numbers from West and North Western Queensland.

The overall quality was down on the previous weeks sale, however good lines of quality cattle were still present with steers and heifers present in similar numbers.

Buyer numbers remained strong with a large buying panel present and operating, including all regular processors.

Feedlot competition was strong for quality cattle with price fluctuations reflective of quality variations.

Medium weight steers saw good gains, along with medium weight heifers to feed.

Light weight steers under 200kg were in limited supply and remained unchanged for the previous week, while yearling steers under 280kg to restockers fell by 15c/kg. Medium weight steers to feed rose by 4c to 20c, and heavy weight yearling steers to feed improved by 7c/kg.

Light weight yearling heifers under 200kg rose by 21c/kg. Medium weight yearling heifers to feed lifted in price by 9c to 11c/kg.

Cows continued to sell to firm demand with heavy weight 3 score cows up by 3c, while heavy weight prime 4 score cows remained unchanged.

The small sample of light weight yearling steers under 200kg sold to a top of 672.2c to average 633c/kg. Yearling steers under 280kg to feed made to 646.2c to average 624c/kg. Medium weight yearling steers under 330kg to feed sold to 624.2c to average 563c/kg. Yearling steers under 400kg to feed also made to a top of 624.2c to average 542c/kg. Heavy weight yearling steers over 400kg to feed reached a top of 534.2c to average 494c/kg.

Light weight yearling heifers under 200kg to restockers reached a top of 638.2c to average 588c/kg. Yearling heifers under 280kg to restockers made to 598.2c to average 551c/kg. Medium weight yearling heifers under 330kg to feed sold to 558.2c to average 544c/kg. Yearling heifers under 400kg to feed reached a top of 548.2c to average 517c/kg. Heavy weight yearling heifers over 400kg to restockers made to a top of 438.2c to average 417c/kg. Heavy weight grown steers to processors made to 406.2c to average 396c/kg.

The best of the grown heifers sold to a top of 422.2c to average 407c/kg.

PTIC heifers sold on a dollars per head basis to a top of $2375/head, while a large run of PTIC cows saw the red tags sell to a top of $2300/head. Light weight cows to restockers sold to a top of 351.2c to average 2926 c/kg. Heavy weight 3 score cows reached a top of 339.2c to average 329c/kg. Heavy weight 4 score prime cows made to a top of 348.2c to average 344c/kg. Heavy weight bulls reached a top of 369.2c to average 357c/kg.

The small number of cows and calves yarded reached a top of $1755/unit.
