Roma store sale 8 Sept 2020: Prices firm in larger 7100 head yarding

Cattle were drawn from a wider supply area and included a large consignment from Julia Creek.

The number of heavy weight steers yarded this week increased, and the overall quality was again mixed.

The buying panel was thinner with reduced southern restocker participation, and a regular processor was again absent, however the buyers present were operating to strong competition.

Prices remained firm and consistent across the most steer and heifer categories, with improvements for secondary cattle.

Medium weight yearling steers to feed improved by 5c to 22c, while heavy weight steers to feed improved by 6c/kg.

Heavy weight yearling heifers to feed improved by 15c/kg.

Medium and heavy weight cows however eased in price overall down by 15c to 27c/kg.

Heavy weight bulls also eased by 18c to 29c/kg with the reduced processor competition.

The small sample of light weight yearling steers under 200kg to restockers made to 480.2c to average 475c/kg.

The largest sample of light weight yearling steers under 280kg to restockers made to 524.2c to average 449c/kg. Medium weight yearling steers under 330kg to restockers sold to 454.2c to average 415c/kg. Medium weight yearling steers under 400kg to feed sold to 430.2c to average 411c/kg. Heavy weight yearling steers over 400kg to feed made to a top of 418.2c to average 393c/kg.

Light weight yearling heifers under 200kg to restockers reached a top of 494.2c to average 425c/kg. The largest sample of light weight yearling heifers under 280kg to restockers made to 440.2c to average 412c/kg. Medium weight yearling heifers under 330kg to feed or background sold to 422.2c to average 380c/kg. Medium weight yearling heifers under 400kg to feed also made to 420.2c to average 395c/kg.

A run of PTIC medium weight heifers sold to strong restocker competition to reach 414.2c to average 406.2c/kg. The best of the medium weight grown steers to feed sold to 368.2c to average 354c/kg. The best of the grown heifers to feed sold to 345.2c to average 316c/kg.

Medium weight good condition cows sold to a top of 264.2c to average 256c/kg. Heavy weight cows in good condition made to 265.2c to average 258c/kg. Strong restocker competition on a run of medium weight store cows saw a top of 238.2c to average 228c/kg.

The best of the heavy weight bulls made to 293.2c to average 267c/kg.

There were increased numbers of cow and calf units yarded and they reached a top of $1960/unit.

Weaner steers under 220kg topped at 480c/kg and averaged 418c/kg, weaner steers in the 220-280kg range reached 522c/kg and averaged 430c/kg. Steers in the 280- 350kg range reached 454c/kg and averaged 402c/kg, and steers in the 350-400kg range reached 426c/kg and averaged 377c/kg. Feeder steers in the 400-550kg range topping at 418c/kg and averaging 366c/kg. Cows and calves hit $1,960/unit.

Tindall Cattle Co, Corona Stn, Longreach sold Angus cross steers to 476c/kg, reaching a top of $1,414 to average $1,084. The Angus heifers sold to 405c/kg, reaching a top of $1,305 to average $968.

DE Garland, Innesvale, Injune sold Hereford steers to 444c/kg, reaching a top of $1,207 to average $1,068.
