Roma sale 1 Aug 2023: Yearling steers to restockers firm

Yarding 7411 Change + 3036

The supply of stock at Roma increased by 3,036 head to 7,411. Cattle were drawn from far western Qld, NSW and the local supply area.

All the regular feeder and restockers buyers attended along with interstate and local processors.

Yearling steers to restockers sold to prices firm on last week with any price variations being quality related with yearling heifers to restockers meeting limited competition.

Grown steers lacked finish and sold to reduced prices however plain cows received strong competition lifting in price with heavy cows selling to spirited competition. Yearling steers in the 200-280kg range to restockers made 374c to average 347c/kg. Yearling steers over 280kg to restockers made 376c to average 334c/kg. Medium steers to feed sold to 366c and averaged 342c with those to restockers at 376c/kg. Heavy yearling steers to feed made 340c with those returning to crop at 351c/kg.

Yearling heifers 200-280kg made 260c to average 234c/kg. Quality yearling heifers over 280kg made 310c to average 240c/kg. Yearling heifers to feed for the domestic market averaged 248c and sold to 292c/kg. Heavy yearling heifers to restockers sold to 306c and averaged 281c/kg.

Grown steers to feed made 322c to average 319c/kg. Bullocks to processors averaged 269c and sold to 288c/kg. Light weight cows to processors made 225c to average 215c/kg.

Good heavy score 3 cows sold from 208c to 235c with score 4 cows at 238c to average 231c/kg. Light weight bulls to restockers made 304c to average 275c/kg. Heavy bulls to processors averaged 260c and sold to 276c/kg.

Cows and calves sold to $1075/unit.

Weaner steers under 200kg topped at 364c/kg and averaged 326c/kg, weaner steers in the 200-280kg range reached 376c/kg and averaged 336c/kg. Steers in the 280-330kg range reached 376c/kg and averaged 342c/kg, and steers in the 330-400kg range reached 366c/kg and averaged 338c/kg. Feeder steers in the 400-500kg range topped at 346c/kg and averaged 329c/kg.
