Roma Store NLRS sale commentary

Yarding 7831 Change 2781

Numbers increased by 55% and the larger supply was drawn from a wide area of the state including far western districts. Buyer attendance was good with representatives operating across all classes. Restockers purchased the vast majority of the young light weight cattle. Feeder operators were in direct competition with export processors on medium and heavy weight grown steers and lifted prices by 15c/kg. Most of the cows sold to a dearer trend, with plain condition light weight classes pushed on by strong restocker support, and the better lines to slaughter increased in price by 7c to 10c/kg.

A large number of calves were penned and most returned to the paddock at an average of 317c, while steer calves from the dry areas in the far west made to 364.2c/kg. A large sample of light weight yearling steers, also returning to the paddock, averaged 313c with sales to 336.2c/kg. Medium weights to feed averaged 308c and made to 334.2c, while poor quality lines averaged in the 270c/kg range. Heavy weights to feed averaged 311c and sold to 318.2c/kg. The better end of the light weight yearling heifers to restockers made to 310.2c, with a fair sample averaging in the 290c range, while lesser quality lines mostly sold around 248c/kg.

Medium weight grown steers to feed averaged 293c and a consignment of heavy weights to feed averaged close to 295c/kg. Light weight plain condition cows returned to the paddock at 196c and medium weights mostly sold around 219c/kg. Medium weight 2 scores to slaughter averaged 225c and good heavy cows made to 268.2c, with a fair sample averaging 261c/kg. Young cows and calves made to $1,475/head.
