Roma Store 8 April 2014: Numbers, quality increase

NLRS Roma Store sale report commentary:

Yarding 5600, Change 3792

It was an improved quality yarding of store cattle. Increased numbers of restocker buyers provided plenty of competition for light weight yearling steers. Light weight yearling steers lifted 1c, while plainer sorts found more demand and jumped 6c/kg.

Medium and heavy weight yearling steers continued to increase in price. Good lines of heifers sold well, but plainer sorts were cheaper in places. Several Queensland feedlots were active on the medium weight yearling heifers. Good heavy weight cows reached 150c/kg.

Light weight yearling steers sold to 224c and averaged 189c, up 1c, while D muscled lines averaged 163c, up 6c/kg. Medium weight yearling steers to feed hit 188c and averaged 180c, up 2c, while those returning to the paddock sold to 199c and
averaged 190c/kg, unchanged in price. Heavy weight yearling steers to feed made to 196c and averaged 189c, up 8c/kg. Light weight yearling heifers to feed reached 160c and averaged 146c, down 6c, while those to southern processors topped at 160c and averaged 144c, down 3c/kg. Those to restocker buyers sold to 181c and averaged 149c, down 7c/kg. Medium weight yearling heifers to feed hit 174c and averaged 152c, down 3c/kg.

A few grown steers to feed sold to 175c/kg. Medium weight 3 score grown heifers averaged 146c, while medium weight 4 score grown heifers earned to 166c and averaged 163c/kg. Store conditioned cows reached 105c and most averaged between 88c and 95c/kg. The medium weight 3 score cows made to 128c and averaged 121c, down 4c, while heavy weight 4 score cows sold to 155c and averaged 141c/kg.

 

Weekly Roma Store sale press report:

A total of 5600 head of cattle were penned at Roma’s Store Sale on Tuesday.

Weaners under 220kg topped at 218c/kg and averaged 182c/kg, while weaner steers in the 220-280kg range reached 224c/kg and averaged 187c/kg. Steers in the 280-350kg range reached 200c/kg and averaged 182c/kg, and steers in the 350-400kg range reached 200c/kg and averaged 185c/kg. Feeder steers in the 400-550kg range topping at 200c/kg and averaging 185c/kg.

Joy & Renee Naish, Coralbyn, Wandoan, sold Angus-cross steers to 224c/kg for 263kg to return $591/head.

S & K Martyn, Greenridge, Roma, sold Simmental-cross steers to 211c for 246kg to return $521. 

Dalmally Grazing Co, Dalmally, Roma, sold Charolais-cross steers to 200c for 433kg to return $867.  

D & G East, Wyora, Winton, sold Charolais steers to 200c for 331kg to return $663. 

BKM Pastoral, Stratton, Roma, sold Brahman-cross steers to 200c for 282kg to return $566.

Bill Roberts Partnership, Charlies Creek, Injune, sold Charolais-cross steers to 199c for 336kg to return $670. The Charolais-cross heifers to sold to 166c for 332kg to return $552.

K Mobbs-Minnett, Gowrie, Charleville, sold Simmental-cross steers to 198c for 282kg to return $559. The Simmental-cross heifers sold to 161c for 236kg to return $381.

Beco Pastoral Trust, Hypatia Station, Longreach, sold Charolais steers to 191c for 337kg to return $644. The Droughtmaster heifers sold to 159c for 339kg to return $539. 

Perrett Cattle Co, Tunis, Injune, sold Charolais-cross steers to 188c for 411kg to return $774.

Inkerman Grazing, Hathaway, Barcaldine, sold Charbray steers to 186c for 410kg to return $763.

A & K Mills, Myendetta, Charleville, sold Angus-cross steers to 175c for 222kg to return $388. The Angus-cross heifers sold to 164c for 204kg to return $335.

Heifers in the 350-450kg range reached 174c/kg and averaged 159c/kg. Heifers in the 280-350kg range topped at 170c/kg and averaged 155c/kg. Heifers in the 220-280kg range topped at 168c/kg and averaged 151c/kg, while heifers under 220kg topped at 164c/kg and averaged 146c/kg.

D Garland & D Wearing, Yingerbay, Roma, sold Santa-cross heifers to 172c for 354kg to return $610.

W & M Jones, Norolle, Roma, sold Charolais-cross heifers to 164c for 436kg to return $717. The Charolais-cross cows to 149c for 501kg to return $748. 

Trent Ciesiolka, Crestview, Oakey, sold Droughtmaster-cross heifers to 168c for 335kg to return $564. 

S & S Apel, Mt Auburn, Chinchilla, sold Droughtmaster heifers to 160c for 237kg to return $380.

No 27 Pastoral Co, Eurolie, Barcaldine, sold Charolais-cross heifers to 156c for 245kg to return $382. 

Cows over 500kg sold to 155c/kg and averaged 144c/kg, while cows 400-500kg topped at 141c/kg and averaged 126c/kg. Cows in the 300-400kg sold to 140c/kg and averaged 106c/kg.

Cows and calves sold to $770/unit and averaged $613/unit.

Bulls up to 400kg reached 168c/kg and average 142c/kg.
