Roma Store 6 May 2014: Prices solid in 9000 head yarding

Yarding 9100, Change -4106

The yarding was a mix of very good quality lines of cattle, plus a fair number of plainer cattle were also consigned. Prices remained solid for better quality store steers, although plainer lines of cattle were harder to sell than the previous week. Light weight yearling steers fell 2c/kg, while plainer lines lost up to 13c/kg on average. Light weight yearling heifers were 10c/kg to 18c/kg cheaper. Cow and calves sold to $760/unit.

Light weight yearling steers sold to 223c/kg and averaged 198c/kg, down 2c/kg, while D muscled lines averaged 162c, down 13c/kg. Medium weight yearling steers to feed reached 192c and averaged 182c, down 7c/kg, while those going back to the paddock hit 198c and averaged 191c, down 10c/kg. Heavy weight yearling steers to feed reached 191c and averaged 181c, down 4c/kg, while those sold to restocker buyers made to 192c and averaged 189c, down 2c/kg. Light weight yearling heifers to feed topped at 172c and averaged 152c, down 10c/kg, while those to southern processors made to 153c and averaged 134c, down 18c/kg. Those to restockers sold to 171c and averaged 147c, down 11c/kg. Medium weight yearling heifers to feed made to 180c and averaged 152c, down 23c/kg. Light conditioned store cows sold to 103c and averaged 91c/kg. Medium weight 4score cows reached 142c and averaged 139c, down 7c/kg.

Roma steers make 223c/kg

A total of 9100 head of cattle were trucked into Roma Saleyards with a large percentage of them sold at Roma’s Store Sale on Tuesday.

Weaners under 220kg topped at 206c/kg and averaged 173c/kg, while weaner steers in the 220-280kg range reached 223c/kg and averaged 186c/kg. Steers in the 280-350kg range reached 221c/kg and averaged 181c/kg, and steers in the 350-400kg range reached 200c/kg and averaged 180c/kg. Feeder steers in the 400-550kg range topping at 195c/kg and averaging 181c/kg.

E Pampling, Derbyshire Downs, Augathella, sold Charolais-cross steers to 221c/kg for 302kg to return $669/head. The Charolais-cross heifers to 151c for 251kg to return $379.

Lighthouse Pastoral Co, Lighthouse, Wallumbilla, sold Angus steers to 220c/kg for 270kg to return $595/head. The Angus heifers sold to 156c for 265kg to return $415.

Golden Pastoral Holdings, Nullin, Yuleba, sold Charolais-cross steers to 219c for 273kg to return $598.

L Briscoe, Gooimbah, Injune, sold Santa-cross steers to 210c for 266kg to return $560.

H & R Campbell, Warragai, Kingaroy, sold Angus-cross steers to 206c for 205kg to return $423.

Rosehearty Grazing, Highbury, Aramac, sold Charolais-cross steers to 200c for 355kg to return $710. The Angus-cross heifers sold to 166c for 204kg to return $340.

A & S Smith, Openbah, Dirranbandi, sold Cross bred steers to 200c for 277kg to return $555.

B Southern, Breena Plains, St George, sold Santa steers to 196c for 325kg to return $638. The Charolais heifers made to 160c for 326kg to return $522.

Rob Cornish, Riverview, Mitchell, sold Charolais-cross steers to 195c for 322kg to return $629.

N Johnston, Coogoon, Roma, sold Braford steers to 192c for 442kg to return $850.

Cargara Cattle Co, Cargara, Augathella, sold Braford steers to 192c for 348kg to return $669. The Braford heifers sold to 154c for 309kg to return $476.

R & A Bredhauer, Claverton, Cunnamulla, sold Angus-cross steers to 192c for 263kg to return $506.

D & P Wippell, Nullawurt, Roma, sold Charolais-cross steers to 189c for 481kg to return $910.

W & M Jones, Norolle, Roma, sold Droughtmaster-cross steers to 189c for 442kg to return $837. The Droughtmaster-cross heifers sold to 152c for 387kg to return $589.

K Copeland, Glencoe, Mitchell, sold Droughtmaster-cross steers to 188c for 492kg to return $926.

Heifers in the 350-450kg range reached 180c/kg and averaged 142c/kg. Heifers in the 280-350kg range topped at 171c/kg and averaged 146c/kg. Heifers in the 220-280kg range topped at 164c/kg and averaged 138c/kg, while heifers under 220kg topped at 166c/kg and averaged 130c/kg.

T & J York, Hyde Park, Wallumbilla, sold Simmental-cross heifers to 170c for 353kg to return $600.

R & L Eckel, Lucys Lane, Charleville, sold Angus-cross heifers to 152c for 295kg to return $448.

S & C Wraight, Westmore, Roma, sold Angus-cross heifers to 148c for 300kg to return $444.

Bill & Mavis Graham, Gladfield, Roma, sold Hereford heifers to 147c for 330kg to return $486.

Pensini Grazing, Cameron Downs, Hughenden, sold Charolais-cross heifers to 147c for 269kg to return $396.

Cows over 500kg sold to 143c/kg and averaged 123c/kg, while cows 400-500kg topped at 143c/kg and averaged 117c/kg. Cows in the 300-400kg sold to 119c/kg and averaged 99c/kg.

Cows and calves sold to $760/unit.

Bulls up to 400kg reached 180c/kg and average 133c/kg.
