Roma store 5 June 2018: Market firms in smaller yarding

Yarding 4845 Change -1231

The supply of stock reduced by 1,231 head to 4,845 at the Roma store sale and most were drawn from the local supply areas.

Buyer attendance was good with representatives covering all classes. Apart from a few drought affected lines the overall quality of the remainder was fair to good. There was a lift in the standard of some classes of yearling steers and prices improved accordingly. A large sample of light weight yearling steers returning to the paddock sold close to the previous weeks level.

Medium and heavy weight yearling steers to feed experienced some quality related price improvements. The vast majority of the light weight yearling heifers sold to within 2c to 3c/kg of the previous sale. A good selection of cows received some small price changes of 2c to 3c/kg.

Steer calves returning to the paddock made to 284.2c, while lesser quality mixed sex calves averaged 218c/kg. Light weight yearling steers sold to restockers at an average of 274c, while some made 306.2c/kg. Drought affected lines averaged 235c and made to 262.2c/kg. Medium weight yearling steers to feed averaged 270c with occasional sales to 290.2c/kg.

The largest number of heavy weight yearling steers to feed averaged 268c and made to 279.2c/kg. Light weight yearling heifers mostly sold in the early to mid 230c/kg range and made to 242.2c/kg. The better end of the medium weight yearling heifers to feed averaged 225c and made to 230c, while local trade lines averaged 230c and made to 244.2c/kg.
A small selection of heavy grown steers to export slaughter made to 264.2c to average 253c/kg.

Light weight poor condition cows returned to the paddock at an average of 143c, medium weights averaged 158c, while some better lines averaged 177c/kg.

Medium weight 2 scores sold to processors at an average of 176c, while the 3 scores averaged 184c/kg. Heavy 3 scores averaged close to 194c, while good heavy cows averaged 205c and made to 212.2c/kg. Heavy bulls made to 240c/kg.

Weaner steers under 220kg topped at 306c/kg and averaged 250c/kg, weaner steers in the 220-280kg range reached 290c/kg and averaged 259c/kg. Steers in the 280-
350kg range reached 307c/kg and averaged 265c/kg, and steers in the 350-400kg range reached 290c/kg and averaged 262c/kg. Feeder steers in the 400-550kg
range topping at 275c/kg and averaging 256c/kg.

Cows and calves hit $1,200/unit.

reaching a top of $807 to average $688.

AB & JM Cosh, Elray, Injune sold Charolais cross steers to 290c/kg, reaching a top of $951 to average $875.
Newton Grazing P/L, Mona Vale, Injune sold Charolais cross steers to 290c/kg, reaching a top of $835 to average $685. The Charolais cross heifers sold to 230c/kg, reaching a top of $632 to average $506.

Heifers under 220kg topped at 242c/kg and averaged 216c/kg, while heifers in the 220 – 280kg range topped at 244c/kg and averaged 228c/kg. Heifers in the 280-
350kg range topped at 244c/kg, averaging 223c/kg. Heifers in the 350-450kg range topped at 238c/kg, averaging 215c/kg.
Bannerhawk Pty Ltd, Billabalong, Injune sold Droughtmaster cross heifers to 238c/kg, reaching a top of $1,274 to average $994.
BM & ND Bauer, Arlington, Augathella sold Simmental cross heifers to 238c/kg, reaching a top of $720 to average $645.
Cows in the 300-400kg range reached 164c/kg and averaged 125c/kg, while cows in the 400kg-500kg range reached 195c/kg and averaged 169c/kg. Cows over 500kg
topped at 212c/kg, averaging 194c/kg.
PE & RE Cupitt, Claren Park, Augathella sold Santa cows to 199c/kg, reaching a top of $1,171 to average $850.
PN & SJ Fearon, Ivanhoe, Tambo sold Shorthorn cross cows to 198c/kg, reaching a top of $1,244 to average $1,146.
