Roma store 4 Apr 2018: Restockers active in smaller yarding

The supply of stock eased to half of the previous week’s level following the Easter break. The smaller numbers were drawn from a wide area including South Australia.

Buyer attendance was generally good and young light weight yearling steers and heifers continued to experience very strong support from restockers. Medium and heavy weight yearling steers to feed also met very solid demand and this trend flowed onto the heifer portion. Heavy grown steers and bullocks to export slaughter averaged 7c better and cows improved by 12c to 13c/kg.

Steer calves returning to the paddock made to 380.2c while heifer calves averaged 319c and made to 330.2c/kg. Light weight yearling steers sold to restockers at an average of 350c with sales to 372.2c/kg. Yearling steers 280-330kg sold to feeder operators and restockers at an average of 320c with some sales to 330.2c/kg.

The largest number of medium weight yearling steers to feed averaged 309c and made to 314.2c/kg. Heavy weight yearling steers over 400kg to feed averaged 291c with the occasional sale to 304.2c/kg. Light weight poor condition yearling heifers averaged 303c and made to 314.2c/kg. A large sample of better condition lines averaged 297c and made to 332.2c/kg.

Heavy grown steers to export slaughter averaged 273c and made to 278.2c while the bullock portion averaged 277c and made to 279.2c/kg. Light weight poor condition cows mostly sold to restockers at an average of 192c with some to 206.2c/kg. A fair sample of good heavy cows to slaughter averaged 230c and made to 234.2c/kg. Heavy bulls made to 253.2c/kg.

Weaner steers under 220kg topped at 372c/kg and averaged 354c/kg, weaner steers in the 220-280kg range reached 348c/kg and averaged 319c/kg. Steers in the 280- 350kg range reached 330c/kg and averaged 304c/kg, and steers in the 350-400kg range reached 304c/kg and averaged 287c/kg. Feeder steers in the 400-550kg range topping at 294c/kg and averaging 282c/kg.

Cows and calves hit $1470/unit.

Brad Marks, Bullecourt, Charleville sold Santa steers for 372c/kg at 208kg returning $775/head.
Tickalara Grazing Co, Tickalara, Thargomindah sold Santa steers for 348c/kg at 242kg returning $844/head. The Angus heifers sold for 330c/kg at 185kg returning $611/head.
JB Walker, Gallipoli Hill, Injune sold Limousin cross steers for 302c/kg at 337kg returning $1,019/head.
Tallawalla Investment Pty Ltd, Tallawalla, Roma sold Brahman cross steers for 294c/kg at 457kg returning $1,346/head.
Barry Duff & TA McCagh, Two Rises, Wallumbilla sold Charolais cross steers for 288c/kg at 466kg returning $1,343/head.
RW & KE Thorne, Holmleigh, Mitchell sold Santa cross steers for 279c/kg at 636kg returning $1,777/head.
Heifers under 220kg topped at 332c/kg and average 282c/kg, while heifers in the 220 – 280kg range topped at 314c/kg and averaged 276c/kg. Heifers in the 280- 350kg range topped at 292c/kg, averaging 263c/kg. Heifers in the 350-450kg range topped at 268c/kg, averaging 251c/kg.
Princess Royal Station, Wertaloona, Copley sold Santa cross heifers for 332c/kg at 201kg returning $669/head.
R & L Moore Pastoral, Grassmere, Mitchell sold Angus heifers for 324c/kg at 204kg returning $664/head.
Wilson Grazing, Redbank, Mitchell sold Braford heifers at 275c/kg at 335kg returning $922/head.
P & HA Sanderson, Mundalya, Yuleba sold Santa cross heifers at 268c/kg at 390kg returning $1,047/head.
Cows in the 300-400kg range reached 209c/kg and averaged 194c/kg, while cows in the 400kg-500kg range reached 244c/kg and averaged 224c/kg. Cows over 500kg topped at 232c/kg, averaging 224c/kg.
SLM Eureka Plains P/L, Eureka, Enngonia sold Angus cows and calves for $1,380/head.
Bulls under 400kg topped at 380c/kg and averaged 318c/kg, while bulls in the 400 – 600kg range topped at 278c/kg and averaged 253c/kg. Bulls over 600kg topped at 269c/kg, averaging 245c/kg.
