Cattle returned to more usual yarding numbers. Larger amounts of heavy weight cattle were penned with a full panel of feedlot buyers displaying solid competition for heavy weight yearling steers, grown steers and medium weight heifers.

Despite light rainfall across some local regions, the light weight yearling steers and heifers were cheaper on average. Export processors were keen to secure suitable 3 and 4 score cows with prices lifting 12c to 13c/kg. Cows and calves sold to $1020 and averaged $796/unit. Light weight yearling steers reached 272c and averaged 239c, down 8c, while slightly heavier sorts sold to 262c and averaged 232c, down 4c/kg. Medium weight yearling steers to feed topped at 260c and averaged 233c, while those to restockers made to 262c and averaged 231c, down 1c/kg. Heavy weight yearling steers to feed earned to 266c and averaged 248c, up 9c/kg.

Light weight yearling heifers to feedlot buyers sold to 208c and averaged 191c, while those to restockers earned to 204c and averaged 183c and 185c/kg. A few good quality sorts to processors made to 196c and averaged 185c/kg. Medium weight yearling heifers to feed topped at 208c and averaged 182c, down 12c/kg. Grown steers sold to 224c and averaged 210c, up 6c/kg. Medium weight 3 score cows hit 178c and averaged 170c, up 12c, while heavy weight 4 score cows reached 190c and averaged 188c, up 13c/kg.

A total of 5747 head of cattle were penned at Roma’s Store Sale. Weaners under 220kg topped at 272c/kg and averaged 233c/kg, while weaner steers in the 220-280kg range reached 272c/kg and averaged 233c/kg. Steers in the 280-350kg range reached 262c/kg and averaged 223c/kg, and steers in the 350-400kg range reached 262c/kg and averaged 219c/kg. Feeder steers in the 400-550kg range topping at 266c/kg and averaging 222c/kg.

Doce, Springwater, Injune, sold Droughtmaster steers to 266c/kg for 465kg to return $1240/head.

J & J Chandler, Kyneton, Barcaldine, sold Santa steers to 264c for 454kg to return $1199.

Scott Todd, Brigalow Downs, Bollon, sold Charolais-cross steers to 264c for 235kg to return $621.

Des & Wendy Jones, Evergreen, Injune, sold Charolais-cross steers to 262c for 354kg to return $929.

R & J Partington, Gunadale, Roma, sold Limousin-cross steers to 257c for 424kg to return $1090.

Dave McKay, Balley Money, Roma, sold Santa-cross steers to 256c for 437kg to return $1120.

J & S Mulcahy, Pringle Downs, Roma, sold Charolais-cross steers to 252c for 400kg to return $1008. The Charolais-cross heifers sold to 202c for 345kg to return $697.

Golden Pastoral Holdings, Nullin, Yuleba, sold Santa steers to 250c for 289kg to return $724.

M Chalmers & Camarca, MacDonald Downs, Alice Springs, sold Santa steers to 248c for 379kg to return $941. The Santa heifers sold to 192c for 422kg to return $812.

Heifers in the 350-450kg range reached 208c/kg and averaged 178c/kg. Heifers in the 280-350kg range topped at 208c/kg and averaged 182c/kg. Heifers in the 220-280kg range topped at 204c/kg and averaged 181c/kg, while heifers under 220kg topped at 210c/kg and averaged 178c/kg.

I & N Simmons, Langley, Dulacca, sold Santa heifers to 194c for 257kg to return $499.

Argyle Pastoral Co, Ruchillo, McKinlay, sold Romagnola –cross heifers sold to 188c for 380kg to return $715.

G & J Lawrence, Barcaldine, sold Charolais heifers sold to 188c for 317kg to return $596.

Cows over 500kg sold to 190c/kg and averaged 181c/kg, while cows 400-500kg topped at reached 188c/kg and averaged 164c/kg. Cows in the 300-400kg sold to 186c/kg and averaged 146c/kg.

Cows and calves sold to $1020/unit and averaged $796/unit.

Bulls up to 400kg reached 226c/kg and average 167c/kg.
