Roma store 3 July 2018: Prices lift on light rain

The supply of stock reduced to less than half of the previous week’s level to 4,329 head. Overall quality was generally good and cattle were drawn from a wide area of the state. A fair panel of buyers covering all classes was present and operating.

Light falls of rain in places lifted buyer enthusiasm and prices on light weight yearling steers averaged 6c/kg better.

Medium weight yearling steers to feed for the domestic market lifted prices by 4c/kg on top of the improvements of the previous week. Heavy weight yearling steers to feed received only a small lift in price.

Most of the yearling heifers experienced price improvements of 3c to 4c/kg and more in places. The mixed quality line-up of cows sold to within a few cents either way the previous week. Mixed sex calves averaged 241c and made to 248.2c/kg. Light weight yearling steers returning to the paddock made to a top 296.2c with a fair sample averaging close to 282c/kg.

Yearling steers in the 280-330kg range sold around 278c with some to 292.2c/kg. Medium weight yearling steers to feed averaged 280c and made to 294.2c/kg. Heavy weight yearling steers over 400kg to feed averaged in the mid-270c/kg and made to 282.2c/kg. A good sample of light weight yearling heifers averaged 251c and made to 266.2c/kg.

The largest numbers of yearling heifers in the 280-330kg range sold around 257c with some to 274.2c/kg. Medium weight yearling heifers to feed reached 278.2c to average 253c/kg. Medium weight poor condition cows returned to the paddock at an average of 170c while the 2 scores to processors averaged 176c/kg. Good heavy cows made to 217.2c to average 212c/kg. Heavy bulls made to 244.2c/kg.

Weaner steers under 220kg topped at 308c/kg and averaged 273c/kg, weaner steers in the 220-280kg range reached 297c/kg and averaged 274c/kg.

Steers in the 280- 350kg range reached 310c/kg and averaged 275c/kg, and steers in the 350-400kg range reached 300c/kg and averaged 279c/kg. Feeder steers in the 400-550kg range topping at 281c/kg and averaging 268c/kg. Cows and calves hit $1,020/unit.

Weaner steers under 220kg topped at 296c/kg and averaged 273c/kg, weaner steers in the 220-280kg range reached 292c/kg and averaged 278c/kg. Steers in the 280-350kg range reached 292c/kg and averaged 273c/kg, and steers in the 350-400kg range reached 294c/kg and averaged 272c/kg. Feeder steers in the 400-550kg range topping at 282c/kg and averaging 263c/kg.
Cows and calves hit $925/unit.

Heifers under 220kg topped at 250c/kg and averaged 237c/kg, while heifers in the 220 – 280kg range topped at 274c/kg and averaged 244c/kg. Heifers in the 280-350kg range topped at 278c/kg, averaging 248c/kg. Heifers in the 350-450kg range topped at 274c/kg, averaging 238c/kg.

Cows in the 300-400kg range reached 200c/kg and averaged 149c/kg, while cows in the 400kg-500kg range reached 215c/kg and averaged 179c/kg. Cows over 500kg topped at 217c/kg, averaging 192c/kg.
